Strictly star says 'it's not too late' for Eddie to return after Amanda's exit

A Strictly Come Dancing star has called for Eddie Kadi and professional dancer Karen Hauer to be brought back into the competition after Amanda Abbington's shock exit.

On Monday's It Takes Two, it was announced Amanda quit the show, after skipping Saturday's live programme. Fleur East broke the news to fans, with Amanda later breaking her silence and revealing she withdrew for "personal reasons". She thanked the production team and "everyone on Strictly" in a statement, without mentioning professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice in her statement, which some have taken as a hint of a feud between the pair.

Now that there's one less couple competing on the show, former Strictly dancer Robin Windsor called for comedian and fan-favourite Eddie to make a return to the show despite being eliminated from the competition following a dance-off with Zara McDermott and Graziano di Prima.

Robin wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Following a contestant's departure it would be great to see the latest eliminated couple return to the show - it’s only Monday so plenty of time to rehearse @bbcstrictly #eddieandkaren." Not many were happy with his suggestions, with fans taking to the comment section to say Eddie was eliminated 'fair and square.'

One user commented: "No! Amanda left for medical reasons & Eddie was eliminated fair & square! S*** happens!", which prompted Robin to write: "Ok calm down - just making a suggestion." Another added: "Don’t they allow for at least one couple to drop out? As has been mentioned maybe just have a week where no one goes or less couples in the final.

"If someone has been voted off I don’t think it’s fair to bring them back." One fan felt bad for Giovanni and said: "It's Gio I feel sorry for, week 5 and lost his partner, too late to bring someone new in." Amanda explained her decision to quit the competition "didn't come easily".

She released a full statement on Tuesday. Amanda said she felt 'deep regret' over the decision and went on to thank her co-stars, without mentioning her mentor Giovanni once – fuelling their feud rumours. "It is with deepest regret that I had to leave Strictly. I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue," she wrote.

Amanda added: "It was an absolute joy working with my fellow contestants, they are a beautiful, hardworking and talented group of people who I love and who I will miss seeing every Friday and Saturday and competing alongside. I want to thank the incredible Production team and everyone on Strictly who looked after me and who are so kind and caring. It’s a wonderful bunch of people and I’ll miss all of them. I'm so sad that I am unable to go any further. Thank you to everyone who voted and who sent wonderful messages and inspiring support. You are all amazing. Truly. Thank you."

Last month it was reported Amanda threatened to quit the show after a number of rows with Giovanni. It was said at the time that Amanda was left feeling miserable over Giovanni's "aggressive training style and attitude" during their training sessions.

A source told The Sun: "Giovanni is a hard taskmaster and takes the competition very, very seriously. Sometimes his manner is incredibly brusque and this can upset his partners. Amanda was really looking forward to dancing with him, but has found his aggressive training style and attitude pretty difficult to handle."
