Abbey Clancy named new favourite to replace Holly Willoughby on This Morning
Abbey Clancy has been named as one of the favourites to replace Holly Willoughby on This Morning.
Holly departed the show earlier this month after 14 years on the ITV daytime programme. She stunned fans by walking away from her role, just months after her co-star Phillip Schofield also left. Many have since been wondering who is set to replace the stars, with attention now turning to model and presenter Abbey Clancy.
The wife of ex-footballer Peter Crouch has become one of the several names who could take over Holly. Abbey has already proved a hit with the couple's hugely popular podcast show The Therapy Crouch and her new ITVBe show Abbey Clancy: Celebrity Homes launched earlier this month.
Discussing Abbey's likeliness of securing the job, a source told The Sun: “Abbey is great on camera — she comes across confidently and has an affable nature which would prove a hit with This Morning viewers. She’s one of the names that has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Holly.”
The mum-of-four shot to fame when she appeared on Britain’s Next Top Model in 2006. In that year she also met Peter and they went onto marry in 2011. Abbey and Peter recently appeared as guests on This Morning and are also close friends with Holly and her husband Dan Baldwin.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesThe two couples have enjoyed partying together at Glastonbury as well as having neighbouring holiday homes in Portugal. Announcing her departure, Holly told her fans: “This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we've done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive.
“To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you. Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You've been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day. It's been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family. I will miss you all so much.“
Since Holly's exit, many famous faces like Alison Hammond and Ben Shepard have been suggested as potential replacements. However another favourite is Storm Huntley, who is already a hit with fans on Channel 5's Jeremy Vine programme.
PR expert Andy Barr told The Sun: “Storm Huntley is fast rising up the bookies odds to make the jump over to ITV's This Morning. Whilst all the speculation so far pits the job competition between her and the ever-charismatic Alison Hammond, I do wonder if ITV is going to take the opportunity to give the format a complete makeover and lead with two female presenters to run the show. And why not?“
However, Storm has since distanced herself from the ITV job. She said that although it is “flattering“, there “may be a scheduling issue there.” Other names include Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway and My Mum, Your Dad star Davina McCall. It has also been speculated Abbey could pave the way for a double act alongside her husband Peter.
Ever since Phillip Schofield's departure, Holly was joined by a string of rotating co-hosts including Alison, Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson. It was said at the time ITV bosses favoured a rotating roster of talent rather than a permanent replacement for Phil. Yet since Holly has also left the show, many are calling for a new set of hosts.
