Big Brother has been embroiled in a new "race row" after Trish shouldered the blame for a remark made by Olivia, which was deemed "sexist".

Viewers of the ITV2 reality show hit out on social media as Trish was "targeted" in the wake of her fellow contestant accusing Chanelle of being an "anti-feminist". It followed a segment in Monday night's instalment that saw the house divided into teams and pitted against each other in order to win this week's luxury shopping budget.

With Queen Ants Chanelle and Noky tasked with selecting their teams from the other 12 housemates, the former opted for an all-male group to take part in a challenge of strength, prompting a backlash from Olivia – which Trish duly agreed with. However, it was Trish that was later pulled before being told her comments had caused Chanelle distress.

Following the unsavoury scenes, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to complain. "Can we get one season of big brother without racism please? #BBUK," one user declared.

Another added: "I can't help and notice the racism issue Big Brother are having #BBUK. I feel so bad for Trish." A third wrote: "Big Brother is so good at showing racism on a micro level. The public vote shows the macro. #BBUK." And a fourth penned: "I feel like a certain narrative is being pushed about Trish right now and I’m not sure what the point exactly is by playing her bad moments … very weird to see it on the big brother aftershow though."

It follows a reported conversation between Friday's evictee, Zak, and Noky, in which the pair previously discussed how it would be "tough" on Trish and Dylan should they become the only non-white contestants left. Zak, who was born in Thailand but has lived in Manchester since the age of nine, was voted out off the show after Muslim make-up artist, Farida became the first to leave a week earlier.

Fans also defended Trish in the wake of Zak's exit after she aimed to unite the house in a meeting to discuss "any issues affecting the house".

"Consideration!", she exclaimed before adding: "Which has come up a couple of times. I would just like to cover one. I think I've said this a little bit, it's bedtime consideration. Sometimes the running around, the throwing things around. A part of coming here was to get away, I was like: I'm gonna get a real good rest."

It didn't go down too well with her housemates, however, as Paul looked annoyed, while Dylan placed his head in his hands. Responding to Trish's comments, Paul said: "Can I just say, you haven't came to a luxury holiday resort, you've came to the Big Brother House and this is what's going to happen.

"I don't go to bed at home til about three in the morning and I am a hyperactive person. I'm not going to just go to bed early and if you can't handle that then you're in the wrong place. Nobody's got any hierarchy apart from Big Brother in here so if you're going to tell me what to do, I'll purposefully not do it," leaving his housemates stunned.

It prompted viewers to lay into Paul over his response, with one declaring on X: "If Paul talks to our Trish like that one more time… Trish was just doing the meeting like she was told to do - Paul is literally one of the most vapid childish garbo housemates we've seen in some time… I'd rather see him go sooner than Kerry and that's saying something."

"What is Paul's problem with Trish like it's getting a bit much at this point," said a second. A third annoyed viewer went on to type: "Nah why is Paul getting loud to Trish? She's not telling you when to go to bed.... She's simply saying if you're gonna run round screaming like a child when people are sleeping GO IN ANOTHER ROOM and do it."

Big Brother airs daily at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
