Britney Spears has spoken out about how Justin Timberlake handled their breakup and claims that his explosive track, Cry Me a River, "shamed" her in her new memoir, The Woman in Me.

Justin and Britney were once one of Hollywood's hottest young couples and the pair were often seen gracing red carpets together, with their double-denim moment at the American Music Awards in 2001 arguably being their most iconic appearance.

However, the pair's three-year relationship ended in 2002 amid allegations Britney had cheated on the former N*SYNC star with choreographer Wade Robson.

Following their split, Justin released track Cry Me a River, which saw Britney portrayed as a cheat, who had betrayed him in the very memorable accompanying music video, while as Britney said, he was seen wandering around "sad in the rain".

The pop princess says that she was portrayed as a "harlot" in the wake of their split, while he was viewed as "America's golden boy". While Britney seemingly accepts she was unfaithful to him, she claims that "Justin neglected to mention the several times he'd cheated on me".

Britney, 41, continued on to say that following Cry Me a River's success, "everyone felt very sorry for [Justin} and it shamed me". Undoubtedly many will wonder why Britney has never come forward before to share that Justin was also unfaithful in the relationship before now, however she claims she felt there was no way for her to tell her side of the story at the time, as he had "convinced the world of his version".

She added: "I don't think Justin realised the power he had in shaming me. I don't think he understands to this day."

Justin is yet to publicly address the various allegations within the book, with many being reported on ahead of its release, however, Entertainment Tonight reported that the 42-year-old singer "has been focusing on his own family and trying not to concern himself with Britney’s memoir".

The source reportedly added: "In recent years, Justin has tried to be supportive of Britney from a distance. They dated so long ago, but he still has respect for her. Justin and Jessica just want everyone to grow and evolve instead of continuing to bring up the past."

Justin has been married to actress Jessica Biel, 41, since 2012 and the pair share two children.
