Lionel Messi has posed for a picture with Ed Sheeran as he prepares to have his first real break from the sport in over a year.

The Argentinian superstar saw his MLS season end last week with Inter Miami not being able to make the playoffs after a slow start to the season prior to his arrival - meaning his season is over.

And Messi took his family, wife Antonella and three sons, Thiago, Mateo and Ciro, to see the English singer while performing in Miami, before meeting him back stage and posing for a picture.

The 36-year-old also shared a video of Thiago and Mateo singing along to Sheeran's 'Bad Habits', with them seemingly knowing the song word-for-word. Fans were loving the link-up between the two global megastars, making their approval clear in the comments.

It comes just days after Inter Miami's season came to an end, with them being winless in their last five games as they missed out on the MLS post-season.

While it might have been a disappointing end to the season, it was one that brought silverware after Messi won the Leagues Cup with the team - just a month after joining.

And after the season came to a close, Messi wrote a message to bring the campaign to a close.

He wrote: "Proud of all the team accomplished this season. With the work and effort of everyone, we were able to win the @leaguescup clinching the first title in @opencup history, we made it to the finals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. MLS and were even fighting to get into the play-offs almost until the very last moment.

"We stayed with all the good things and above all the desire to improve to be even more competitive next year. I would like to thank all the people of the club and the city of Miami for the support they always give us.

"I'm sure we'll continue to have amazing moments together as we have in the past few months. A hug for everyone!"

The Argentinian will now have his first off-season since the summer of 2022, after only having a few weeks off following his PSG exit to join Inter Miami - who play their season during the European's league's close.

Messi is likely now to have at least three months away from the sport regularly, with the MLS not set to begin until around February.

He is likely to continue to play for Argentina, with them set to face Uruguay and Brazil in November.
