Strictly's Adam Thomas forced to take 'baby steps' after training ban

BBC's Strictly Come Dancing star Adam Thomas shared with fans that he is finally back in training after BBC bosses banned both celebrities and professional dancers from going to the gym - if they caught the winter flu.

The 35 year old Waterloo Road actor, had fallen ill last week ahead of his performance on Saturday's live show, which meant he was also temporarily banned from rehearsals as well. But the father of two, who is partnered with Strictly's pro dancer Luba Mushtuk, appears to be fighting fit as he posted a video on social media that he was back in the gym with his brother Scott Thomas.

He told fans: "Just got in the gym this morning for the first time in a very long time and lifted some weights as well with a little bit of help from the little brother, little twin, or big twin shall I say. Felt good, obviously not lifted as much as I would've liked but you know baby steps, we're getting there, we're getting there." And in a separate post by Scott, it read: "Back in with the Twin Bro today, his first session back lifting weights in a while! Proud moment. Hes also received his @food4thoughts meal plan, focused on anti-inflammatory foods to help combat arthritis. Lets go. Huge week incoming for the F4T Festive Shape Up Challenge."

BBC bosses were petrified that the flu, which Adam seemed to have, could have wiped out the entire cast of the dancing show and so took precautionary measures to avoid chaos. An insider told The Sun: "Strictly have been banning the celebs and the pros from training if they’re ill in a bid to stop them from spreading it. Naturally everyone on the show just wants to show up and carry on. But if they’re spreading their lurgy it could have a big knock on effect. Strictly should be about sparkles and sequins – not snot!"

But catching the common cold has not been the only thing to put a spanner in the works for the former Emmerdale star. He recently gave fans a health update following his arthritis diagnosis. Earlier this year, the star revealed he had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which is a condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. And Adam has been seen wearing a support on his wrist.

But in a bid to keep his fans in the loop, he posted a picture of himself on social media and explained that he was having more tests done to help treat his condition better. The picture showed Adam at hospital awaiting a blood test. He captioned the post saying: "One day I will get my arthritis under control but until then... more bloods and more doctors. Staying strong."

Back in August, Adam first went public with news of his health condition as he said that he had been struggling with the symptoms since the beginning of the year. At the time he wrote: “I’ve been in a lot of pain since January, it started with my knees and then traveled to my wrists, fingers and now ankles and toes.I never knew what was happening and finally after several blood tests and back and forth to doctors and hospitals, I’ve been diagnosed with rheumatoid Arthritis! I thought that was something people, later on in there life get… but that’s not the case, clearly!”
