Here’s how your morning coffee can boost your sex life - and intensify orgasms

It’s no secret that your morning coffee can help you feel energised for the day ahead, but have you ever wondered whether the popular brew can boost your sex life?

One doctor has taken to social media to highlight the steamy link between caffeine and orgasms, posing the question: "Can coffee make your horizontal bed sheet tango more intense?” Dr Karan Rajan, who goes by @dr.karanr on TikTok, responded to a video of a woman holding an iced coffee and claiming: “I just found out that if you drink coffee before sex it intensified your orgasm by 50 percent.”

The clip then moved on to another woman who had tested the theory using three “solid” shots of espresso, before branding the results as “wild”. Speaking to his 5.2million followers, Dr Raj explained: “At low doses caffeine has mainly a vasoconstrictor effect, it narrows blood vessels. But at very high doses it has mainly a vasodilator effect, it widens the blood vessels and improves blood flow.”

Sexual arousal and orgasms are strongly linked to the amount of blood flowing downstairs, so better circulation means more flow to the erectile tissue. “Thus the more likely you are to reach peak states of arousal that sets the stage for a great orgasm,” says the expert.

Dr Raj highlighted that futher research is required to establish a definite link between coffee and orgasms, but he noted a 2005 study on rats that revealed some promising results. He said: “Female rats who were administered caffeine engaged in more hanky panky. Simply put, caffeine is still a stimulant so perhaps the increased focus, alertness and heart rate just makes people more active.

“There’s no real hard science to suggest whether coffee could make or break your big trip to O-town, but it does seem like a fairly benign experiment. So, do whatever you need to do to float your erogenous boat.” According to VeryWell Health, coffee boosts energy levels, improves physical endurance, and increases neurotransmitters associated with elevated mood, which can all serve to help improve sex life.

The health site adds that one or two cups consumed around 45 minutes prior to sexual activity may help improve erectile dysfunction (ED), boost testosterone, and provide energy for a positive sexual experience. What’s more, studies have shown that men who consume between 85 to 170 milligrams of caffeine are 42 percent less likely to experience ED compared to those who don’t consume caffeine.
