Hollyoaks star Lucy-Jo Hudson gives health update after terrifying hospital dash
Hollyoaks star Lucy-Jo Hudson has given an update on her health after she revealed last week that she had been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
The 40-year-old soap star sparked alarm among fans last weekend when she revealed she had been rushed to A&E and needed a blood transfusion. She then explained that doctors had been stumped by her sudden illness - and she was submitted to a number of tests to determine what was wrong.
Lucy-Jo - who played Donna-Marie Quinn on Hollyoaks from 2018 until this year - explained that her heart rate had dropped to a frighteningly low level and tests then found she had very low iron levels in her blood. Doctors were able to reach a diagnosis and now the TV star is able to get medication and is on the road to recovery.
Lucy-Jo - who was previously married to Coronation Street star Alan Halsall and shares two children with him - says she is now bracing herself to feel worn out due to the imminent half-term holidays. Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Lucy-Jo shared a snap of herself in hospital and rejuvenating herself with vitamins, healthy food, and mugs of tea.
She wrote alongside the collection of photos: "Life lately!!! Well, it’s been a crazy time of late…. But I can finally say I am now fully on the mend! Thank you for all your gorgeous and thoughtful messages, you don’t know how much I appreciate your kindness."
Baby boy has spent his life in hospital as doctors are 'scared' to discharge himGoing into details about her health journey, she continued: "Sooooo long story short, I was very short of breath last week, having chest pains and it turned out my HB levels were scarily low!!! They should have been between 115-155, and mine were 67….. my iron levels should have been 38-48 but they were 1.5!!! I’ve been diagnosed with 'Chronic Anaemia'.
"I’m still looking into what’s causing all of this! But thanks to the amazing staff at Salford Royal, I was immediately put on the emergency assessment unit and given 2 blood transfusions, my HB levels have gone up to 94 so I can breath again, and my iron levels (now I’m on medication for that) are slowly going up, so my health is heading in the right direction!!!
"I can honestly say I feel a million times better now…. I can’t actually believe how poorly I felt last week, and how I’ve Managed to function all of this time!?"
She added: "I’m ready to get back to some sort of routine now…. Which is a good thing cos the kids have just broken up for half term... Honestly….. how is it the school holidays again?"
