Liverpool will be gunning for a first Premier League win in three games when they host local rivals Everton in Saturday's Merseyside derby clash.

Despite the controversial VAR-fuelled defeat at Tottenham, followed by more dropped points at Brighton, Jurgen Klopp's men remain just three points off the top of the Premier League table. And the 12.30pm kick-off at Anfield means they can temporarily go top with their title rivals not in action until later in the day.

The Toffees meanwhile, will arrive off the back of a rare win, beating Bournemouth 3-0 before the international break. But the Reds will still be hotly fancied against Sean Dyche's relegation-threatened side, whose last derby win came in lockdown when Carlo Ancelotti steered his side to a 2-0 victory.

Here are the latest headlines from Anfield in the last 24 hours....

Klopp confirms Robertson needs surgery

Andy Robertson is facing three months on the sidelines after Liverpool decided to opt for surgery on his shoulder injury.

Robertson was injured in a collision with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon before half-time in Scotland's 2-0 defeat last Thursday. The 29-year-old was substituted in clear pain and was later diagnosed with a dislocated right shoulder.

Speaking ahead of the Merseyside derby on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp confirmed the blow."The decision is we go towards surgery,” he explained. "There was a chance he could try without but, having talked to experts, surgery will be the best thing for him in the long-term especially. He's out for a while, we don't know exactly how long.”

How much should Liverpool bid for Osimhen? Let us know in the comments below!

Liverpool have been given fresh encouragement in their pursuit of striker Victor Osimhen.

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has revealed talks over a new deal have stalled, saying: "I have never not been calm when it comes to Osimhen, but it takes two to tango," he said.

"I remain the same, if his mood has changed, then there's not much I can do about that. If after a handshake things change, that is disappointing, we take it into account, but life goes on. We have a good rapport with him, the contract runs to 2025, so there is time."

Oxlade-Chamberlain "never" told about contract call

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has claimed Liverpool did not inform him he wouldn't be offered a new contract until just days before his release was officially announced.

In an interview with The Athletic, the former Arsenal and Southampton man was asked when he discovered he would be leaving and replied: “It was never said. I obviously got the picture. I got told before they released the statement: ‘Just so you know, we’re putting this out about you, Milly, Bobby and Naby leaving’.

"And I was like, ‘Oh, OK. Thanks’. But there was nothing official at any point before. It was just… the silence was enough to know what the situation was.”
