A local TikTok star had a short but intimate talk with her followers on TikTok while she waxed her beard in a very vulnerable video meant to uplift women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

The roughly two-minute video depicts social media influencer Daquana White revealing her entire waxing routine, which she performs every two to three weeks. Daquana suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS), which denotes women with irregular periods, difficulties getting pregnant and facial hair growth. The latter is the crux of Daquana's video, which received 34.9 million views.

Daquana wastes little time getting to the point. "The major key or the ignorance really lies in the question of people asking 'are you a man?' And the answer is no," her voiceover states as she yanks purple wax off her face. The condition poses a number of grievances with a "regrowth pattern" one of them.

Daquana explicitly confirms that she was born a woman and has not undergone any surgeries. She makes sure to slap the PCOS hashtag on her video to give her audience more insight on the condition.

In an ostensible effort to regulate annoying comments, the entrepreneur states that she is not "looking for answers" as she has all ready done her research into the disease.

She added that the video isn't an invitation to critique her waxing skills in the comments. "We don't ask for open-ended essay responses in regards to our health, weight, hormones or anything of that nature in the comments," she said. PCOS affects a women's ovaries and makes them produce male sex hormones called androgens that are usually found in women but in small amounts.

The name describes the influx of small cysts that are formed in the ovaries. However, not all women with PCOS develop cysts. The condition in some cases can make it very difficult to get pregnant. This is because they are not making enough of the necessary hormones needed to ovulate.

The exact cause of PCOS is currently unclear but many women with the condition have insulin resistance, which means the body is ill-equipped to properly utilise insulin. The insulin levels eventually build up causing the ovaries to make even more androgens, creating a hellish cycle.

The symptoms of PCOS are not subtle. If one notices acute abnormalities, including inconsistent periods, sudden weight gain around the abdomen, increased acne or oily skin and excess body hair, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

A medical professional will typically determine a diagnosis through an ultra sound to look at the size of the ovaries and whether they have cysts. Blood tests are also common as they look for high levels androgens and other hormones.
