It seems no day is ever quiet at Manchester United at the moment - even during an international break.

A twist in the prolonged takeover saga this week is set to culminate in Sir Jim Ratcliffe purchasing a 25 percent minority stake in the club. That's after frontrunner Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani withdrew his offer to buy the club, having grown frustrated at the apparent reluctance of the Glazer family to accept his reported £6billion bid.

But for Erik ten Hag, addressing matters on the field will again be the priority this weekend. The Red Devils go to Sheffield United on Saturday, looking to build on the dramatic win over Brentford last time out.

Ten Hag 'to stay in charge of transfers'

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov is adamant Erik ten Hag will remain in charge of transfer business should Sir Jim Ratcliffe's proposal to buy a 25 percent minority stake in the club be approved.

Despite Ratcliffe's criticism of United's transfer business Berbatov, who spent four seasons at Old Trafford, expects the 70-year-old billionaire to back the Dutch boss: "Everyone is waiting for the club to be run better and if Jim Ratcliffe is the answer then we need to wait and see how it all unfolds," he told Betfair.

"Looking at what it could mean for the club and what will need be addressed, on the pitch, it will still come down to who Erik ten Hag likes and who he wants to bring in. Away from the pitch, the stadium needs to be renovated."

Hojlund's furious San Marino rant

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund was left furious at the treatment he was subject to during Denmark's 2-1 win over minnows San Marino on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old scored in the 2-1 win, was subjected to some rough treatment. He bemoaned: "I understand Italian, and I could hear several of them running around and saying nasty things to me. They also pushed and hit me while grabbing me extra hard.

"When we scored, I was shown the flag, and they obviously couldn't handle that, and then they started pushing and things like that. I think it is incredibly disrespectful that they hit and tore. Especially him [Alessandro Tosi, also in the media mixed zone at the time], who is over there, started to tear me and hold extra tight."

Casemiro's fitness boost

Casemiro has handed Manchester United an injury boost ahead of their meeting with Sheffield United on Saturday night.

The midfielder was forced off in the latter stages of Brazil's 1-1 draw with Venezuela last Thursday night and was a major doubt for their World Cup qualifier with Uruguay in the early hours of Wednesday morning. But the ex-Real Madrid star was duly named in Fernando Diniz's starting XI for the clash in Montevideo.

And the 31-year-old proved his fitness as he played the full 90 minutes for the Selecao - albeit, on a chastening night for the five-time World Cup winners. Goals from Darwin Nunez and Nicolas de la Cruz gave Marco Bielsa's side a 2-0 victory.
