Britney's new book is due out later this month

Britney Spears is reportedly “scared” to do TV interviews ahead of her bombshell memoir release.

The 41-year-old pop icon is preparing for the hotly-anticipated release of her tell-all book The Woman in Me, which has been described as the “event of the year” by her book publisher. It will allegedly lay bare the heartbreaking details of her relationship with Justin Timberlake, as well as her lengthy conservatorship under the control of her father Jamie Spears.

Despite the book being released on 24 October, Britney has reportedly refused to do any interviews to help promote it, as she feels “too edgy and unstable” to handle a sit-down interview on live TV after having “terrible media experiences” in the past. “She’s wary of lights and cameras in her face to the point that she’s scared she might say or do something that would freak everybody out,” an insider told Express.com.

Britney’s turned down appearances on Good Morning America, as well as 60 Minutes, but it was rumoured the Womanizer hitmaker is in negotiations with Oprah Winfrey for an explosive intimate interview ahead of her book release. However, nothing has yet been confirmed, and the award-winning singer has been laying low since excerpts from The Woman In Me have been released in recent days.

Since her book was announced, Britney has separated from third husband Sam Asghari, 29, and it’s been reported the personal trainer and stuntman is demanding huge alimony payments, despite signing an iron-clad pre-nup when they tied the knot last year. The embattled music icon is also facing another legal battle with second husband Kevin Federline, who has asked for a $40,000 increase in his child support payments. The former couple share Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 16, and Kevin has primarily looked after the boys in recent years.

“This book was meant to represent the start of a brand new chapter of her life. But instead, since it was written, everything has been going wrong for her – again,” the source added.

Gallery Books vice president Jennifer Bergstrom claimed the Toxic hitmaker’s book would document how she “shook the world, changed laws and showed her inspiring strength and bravery”, and fans are clamouring to get their hands on it. In excerpts published by People, Britney has covered a long list of highly-publicised events in her life, including her infamous head-shaving in 2007.

“I’d been eyeballed so much growing up. I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back,” she explained.
