Given they're quick at cooking food and cheaper than turning on the oven, it's no surprise that the popularity of air fryers shows no sign of fading. With energy costs remaining high, many home cooks have turned to the kitchen appliances to whip up fast meals and discovered impressive results.

One brand you'll likely be familiar with is Ninja, which has developed a bit of a cult following among an army of cooks who swear by the gadgets. However, they aren't the cheapest, with a host of other brands available to buy for less.

But if you're a bit on the fence, or the price is just a little bit out of your budget, then a little-known discount might help. Ninja offers an array of discounts for various people, including key workers, young professionals and over 55s.

The following key workers can claim 10% off their order:

  • Healthcare and NHS
  • Teachers
  • Military
  • Police and fire
  • Delivery and transport
  • Supermarket staff
  • Charity workers
  • Social care workers
  • Government

These are some of the most popular Ninja air fryer models and alternative brands that cost a bit less.

Ninja Foodi Max

The Mirror's Gareth Butterfield has tested out several air fryers. Speaking of the Ninja Foodi Max Dual Zone he said: "It's just such a lovely thing to use, with loads of power, easy controls, big dual drawers and a wide array of preset functions", adding "It does a fine job of crisping up chips, but I prefer a bit of manual control to relying on presets."

Speaking of a potential drawback, one reviewer on Amazon said: "Could do with a dividing shelf to each draw as they are very deep and then you could use 2 or even 3 layers to each draw if you need a lot of food to cook."

Ninja Speedi

The Ninja Speedi has been super popular since its release earlier this year. It's also seen some huge discounts in recent sale events. On Amazon's recent Prime Big Deal Days it was priced at £139.99, £110 cheaper than the RRP.

The Mirror's Narin Flanders tried out the device to cook for her family. She said: "I've not switched my oven on in over a week saving a significant chunk in gas usage, we're all eating much more healthily and my husband and I spending considerably less time in the evening having to clean the kitchen.

"In the Flanders house it's a definitely four thumbs up all round, with Ninja moving air fryer technology into a revolutionary new direction." She added that users will want to be sure that they're going to get a decent amount of use out of it given it's a hefty investment.

Which is the best air fryer?

It's a question where the answer will vary depending on who you ask, but Gareth Butterfield absolutely swears by the Salter Aerogrill Pro 16-in-1. He said: "I love it because it takes the air fryer concept and turns it on its head, almost literally. Rather than just having the capability to evenly roast a basket of chips, or a whole chicken, it can bake, dehydrate, or even barbecue.

"Yep, that's right, one of its best features is its grilling mode. You will not find an air fryer that handles a succulent steak like the Aerogrill Pro. It even adds a distinctive char-grill flavour. I've no idea how, it just does."

The product is £98.99 on Amazon, but can be found cheaper from Salter directly where it's priced at £79.99.

Cheaper alternative

The Tower T17021 is an ideal option for shoppers who perhaps have seen the air fryer hype but aren't sure if they'll get enough use out of the gadget to make it worthwhile. It's got a 4.3L capacity and is priced at £55.
