Glasgow’s iconic Garage nightclub goes up for sale after three decades
A famed Glasgow nightclub which has played host to the likes of Prince, Coldplay and One Direction has been put up for sale.
The Garage, on Sauchiehall Street, has been a staple of the city’s nightlife scene since opening its doors in 1994.
Owner Donald MacLeod described the venue as a "cultural institution" but said he was putting it up for sale to focus on other business interests.
Estate agents CDLH said they expected "strong interest" from a range of buyers.
They described it as a "landmark venue" boasting a "reputation that extends far beyond Glasgow".
The club, which comprises three different venues across four floors, has capacity for up to 1,800 revellers.
MacLeod, who also owns the Cathouse club in Glasgow, said: "It has been an absolute privilege and honour to own and operate such a well-loved venue, whose history, energy, location and reputation has placed it on the world’s stage.
"As I start to focus on developing other areas of my media, promotion and leisure portfolios, this feels like the right time to pass the baton to a new owner, who along with our fantastic management team and staff, will help build on this incredible legacy."
The Garage is the club’s main venue, with smaller rooms known as G2 and The Attic attached.

American superstar Prince played a surprise secret set at the club in 1995, hours after dazzling in front of 10,000 fans at the city’s SECC.
Boyband One Direction played there in 2010, while the likes of Biffy Clyro and Kasabian also headlined there before making it big.
MacLeod said the venue’s gig diary was "full up" for the rest of the year.
In a sales brochure, CDLH describe it as a "a cornerstone of Glasgow’s vibrant music scene."
Peter Darroch, of CDLH, added: "The Garage is a truly landmark venue with a reputation that extends far beyond Glasgow.
"Opportunities to acquire assets of this stature are rare, and we anticipate strong interest from a range of buyers seeking to build on its established legacy."
