Great British Bake Off is cancelled tonight in huge Channel 4 schedule shake-up

Fans of the Great British Bake Off will have to find something else to fill in their time at 8pm this evening as the popular Channel 4 show has been taken off tonight's TV schedule.

The show, which first aired in 2010, has been cancelled to make way for live football. Hosted by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, the show will move from its regular slot to tomorrow. And tonight, football fans will be able to watch England go head to head against Italy for the Euro 2024 qualifying games. Live coverage of the match starts on Channel 4 at 7pm but the actual match starts at 7.45pm and runs through until 10.15pm.

And this means, as well as missing Bake Off viewers will also miss out on the their fix of Don't Look Down For Stand Up To Cancer, which comes just after the baking show at 9.15pm. But fear not, as Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood are returning tomorrow night at the usual time of 8pm.

Fans of the popular baking show have expressed mixed emotions as one person said: "Moving Bake Off for football? Unacceptable. #GBBO."

Another person said: "Just found out The Great British Bake Off has been postponed until tomorrow because of Football." Meanwhile another person said: "When Bake Off changes the night but you were going out tonight anyway so it all works out! Nice one C4, no FOMO for me #GBBO."

This week's theme is a chocolate one and the Signature Challenge is for bakers to make a torte. The Technical Challenge is to make a cheesecake while the Showstopper Challenge is for bakers to create a chocolate box. During last week's show, the contestants had to take on Bread Week, however Abbi became the latest baker to be eliminated from the competition. She had a particularly difficult week with one of her bread dishes collapsing and falling flat. And the judges criticised all three of her efforts during last week's show -which made her break down in tears

She later apologised to the cameras and explained that she was crying because she felt "emotional". Paul sent Abbi home and once again she burst into tears. Talking about her time on the show she said: "I’m going to take away a real sense of achievement of being in the series and also of defining myself as a baker — I feel I have a proper baking style now, and have discovered what I love to do the most and what I am best at." She added: "I knew it was coming and you know what I am really proud of myself. I never thought I would be able to do this, it has given me such a massive confidence boost and I have met such amazing people."
