Shayne Ward fans were baffled when the singer appeared on This Morning today sporting a striking new hairstyle, which is a huge departure from the shaved look we are used to seeing.

The X Factor star, 39, was on the show to discuss his new series on Channel 5, The Good Ship Murder. Shane, who has always shaved his head, spoke about his new acting gig, which also stars former Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley, with much excitement. But viewers couldn't get over his hair, which had suddenly grown and was slicked back behind his ears.

Admitting his new look also confused The Good Ship Murder's crew and co-stars, Shayne said: "Nobody recognised me [while filming] because of my hair, because I used to have a bald head."

Host Alison Hammond gushed she "loved" the singer's new look, but viewers weren't convinced with some saying Shayne looked like a extra from period drama, Bridgerton. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one said: "Shayne looks so different to his Aidan on Corrie days," while a third suggested: "Could be a double for Bridgerton."

Shayne and Catherine previously played star-crossed lovers Aidan Connor and Eva Price on the Coronation Street, and are now set to star as the protagonists on The Good Ship Murder. Set aboard a luxury cruise ship in the Mediterranean, the series is said to showcase glamour, rivalries, wealth and class divides existing within its endless cabins, decks and amenities.

Shayne plays a detective turned singer in the show five years after he left Coronation Street and 10 years after winning the X Factor in 2005. The singer has been enjoying a break from the spotlight after getting engaged to former Hollyoaks star Sophie Austin. The couple share six-year-old daughter Willow May and son Reign Thomas Austin, who turned one in June.

Earlier this year, The Mirror exclusively revealed Shayne is ready to return to music and impress his kids. He has been laying down tracks in the studio and plans to launch a comeback tour. Stating 2023 is a big year for him, he spoke about his plans for his first solo tour in 11 years.

He shared: "This year is going to be a big year for me. I’m releasing new music, headlining my first solo tour in 11 years and starring in my first lead role in a big TV series.

"It just feels like now is the right time to focus on my music career and show people what I have been working on. I see it as more of a return than a comeback. I’m 39 this year and in such a beautiful place – I am engaged to an incredible woman and have two beautiful kids. I want them to see me on stage and to see what Daddy can do."
