Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is among those to invest in Otro Capital, a strategic investment backing F1 outfit Alpine.

The team, which previously raced under the Renault name, have won a race since rebranding and enjoy backing from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who took the decision to invest back in the summer. They have now received another financial boost in the shape of an extra €200million (£173million).

Alexander-Arnold is among a host of sports stars to get involved with the investment group as NFL duo Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, Rory McIlroy and Anthony Joshua also invest in the F1 outfit with the sport seeing huge growth over the past five years.

The new investors will help drive global awareness for Alpine F1 and will further help Otro Capital as they contribute in other business areas such as media, sponsorship, ticketing, hospitality, commercial rights management, licensing and merchandising.

Alexander-Arnold said of his involvement: “I’m excited to be joining Otro Capital’s group as an investor in Alpine F1 along with my brother Tyler. Having been to Formula 1 races as a fan, I love the high-pressure environment of the paddock and I’ve seen first-hand how incredibly impressive the Alpine team is.

Joshua said of his decision: “The chance to strategically invest with Otro Capital in Alpine was an opportunity I couldn’t ignore. The heritage of the team, mixed with the global growth of Formula 1 as a sport and brand made this a very serious proposition. I am excited to start this journey with Otro and a great group of fellow investors and hope to help the team achieve its full potential.”

Alpine currently boast an all-French line-up of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, both of whom have won races in recent years. The team are based out of Enstone in the UK and currently sit sixth in the constructors' championships having picked up two podiums this season.

Alec Scheiner, heavily involved with Otro Capital, said: “We are honoured at Otro Capital to be joined by this particular group of investors into our Alpine F1 investment in partnership with RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Effort Investments. These are best-in-class investors, athletes, entertainers and entrepreneurs and they are all committed to elevating the Alpine F1 team.”
