UFC legend Conor McGregor has praised Dillon Danis for going out "swinging" in his disqualification loss to Logan Paul.

Danis, a longtime teammate of McGregor's, made his boxing debut this past weekend against Paul at the Misfits Boxing Prime card in Manchester. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion landed just 16 punches before he was disqualified for trying to choke Paul out in the final round, which prompted security to enter the ring and a massive brawl to break out.

McGregor was expected to be in attendance for the event to support Danis but he failed to show up on fight night. The Irishman tweeted to his teammate after his loss: "Proud of you Dillon! You built that card tremendously and went out swinging! Four-time jiu-jitsu world champion with the bottle to go into pro boxing in front of the world. Chalk it up to the first time ever in history that has been done! Well done brother! Onwards!"

A member Paul's security team entered the ring earlier on several occasions as a result of Danis threatening to choke out his rival. Danis has vowed to appeal his defeat because of the offences, one of which saw Paul punch him whilst on the ground. "There was multiple offences. I’ll be submitting my appeal to the commission," Danis wrote on Twitter.

McGregor was in hysterics after the conclusion of the fight as he said in a Twitter voice note: "What a spectacle, ya’s’r welcome. Are yous not entertained? I was impressed [by Danis], good shots. He needed to let them shots go, some of them ones he was throwing was alright.

"He just needed to let them go a little bit more What did your man [Paul] do anyway? You didn't even wobble him, you didn't even hurt him. You done nothing lads, yup the crew! "I tell you what, it was better than what Nate Diaz done anyway yeah? That was a show, yup yup."

Paul played down any chance of rematching Danis in MMA unless he pays him the entire purse he took home for their boxing fight. The YouTuber also called out McGregor for his next fight by stating: "Conor McGregor did you see that, I put your b**** on a leash and took him for a walk. Who is the real fighter now?"
