The UK's Christmas markets are back for another year as pud, clove and wooden toy sellers across the country prepare to welcome visitors this festive season.

With winter fast approaching and the clocks soon to go back, plunging us all into evening's of darkness, attention can be turned towards Christmas. In recent years the UK has formed an increasingly strong Christmas market scene, with events most regular associated with European countries like Germany and Austria now a common feature in many towns and cities.

They are the perfect place to pick up gifts or decorations as the big day approaches, or to soak up the atmosphere with a glass of mulled wine. Below we have highlighted some of the biggest Christmas markets that will take place in the UK this festive season, as well as a list of many of the others soon to be enchanting families.

If you know of one that isn't on the list, please let us know via [email protected]

Visitors will also be able to take in the massive Christmas tree, hand out at the ice bar or even have a go on the toboggan run. More information can be found here.

Leeds, November 24 to December 22

After the market was cancelled in Leeds last year, this year's outing is back with a bang. For the first time ever, streets and spaces all across the city centre will be hosting around 120 Bavarian-style, traditional, timber market stalls decked out in festive lighting.

The new Christmas market will also feature three Christmas-themed outdoor bar areas on Briggate, Quebec Street (close to market stalls on City Square which is outside the train station) and Dortmund Square. Click here for more details.

Birmingham, November 2 to December 24

What is arguably the country's most iconic Christmas market is also one of the longest running this year, opening for over a month and a half. The Frankfurt market, as it is known, is the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria, and provides plenty of Bavarian treats including pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts, and roasted almonds.

The perfect place to stop for a glass of gluhwein, weissbeer (wheat beer), or tasty hot chocolate. More information can be found here.

Bristol, November 3 to December 23

Bristol's city centre will be taken over by dozens of market stall holders and be visited by Father Christmas and his reindeer this festive season. Bristol Shopping Quarter's streets will play host to wooden chalets offering a selection of gifts as well as festive food and drink. More information can be found here.

Chester, November 17 to December 21
