A KFC customer was perplexed after their food was delivered by police - because the delivery driver had their car seized.

Officers in Newton Abbot, Devon, decided to drop off the order themselves after the delivery driver was found to be at the wheel without insurance.

He was pulled over after being spotted speeding, police said.

Newton Abbot Police said it happened on Friday, December 23, Devon Live reports.

Quick-thinking officers decided to get the fast food order to its destination before it got cold.

It posted on Facebook: "On Friday this vehicle caught officers' attention while speeding through Newton Abbot.

"It was on its way to deliver some food but the driver didn’t have insurance so the car was seized.

"Luckily the KFC was delivered by our neighbourhood team so it didn’t go cold.

"We dealt with many vehicles on the same evening all of which were either not insured at all or incorrectly insured so please check your policies so you don’t end up with six points on your licence and a £300 fine.

"It's illegal to drive a vehicle on a road or in a public place without at least third-party insurance. Even if the vehicle itself is insured, if you’re not correctly insured to drive it you could be considered to be driving without insurance and could get penalised.

"You also need to check your insurance covers you for the correct use. If you're using your vehicle for business purposes this won't automatically be covered. Not all insurance policies renew automatically so always check the details of your policy and when it ends."
