Holly Willoughby has cancelled a trip abroad out as she's said to be 'too scared' to leave her home after a kidnap plot against her was foiled by cops, according to reports.

The 42-year-old mum-of-three has been shaken in recent weeks after a Gavin Plumb, 36, appeared in Chelmsford Magistrates' Court earlier this month charged with offences including soliciting to commit murder and incitement to commit kidnap. The horrifying incident saw Holly take time away from ITV’s This Morning – before she subsequently made the decision to quit the show.

New reports have suggested Holly has decided to cancel a family trip to Portugal as the terrifying court case and plot against her continue to leave her feeling shaken. The star – who shares her children with 48-year-old husband Daniel Baldwin – is said to be anxious to leave her home.

Holly is said to have been under police protection since the kidnapping plot was foiled. A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Holly and her family always make sure they get away to their Portugal holiday home for a change of scenery in October half-term to get the last rays of sunshine before it gets cold and dark and winter sets in.

“But she is petrified to leave the house and doesn’t want to be away from the security she has in place in the UK. She doesn’t know if she will be safe to go abroad and wants to stay in her comfort zone. Her priority is her family and focusing on them at this distressing time.”

The Mirror has contacted Holly’s spokesperson for comment.

Daytime TV fans were devastated last Monday when Holly announced she was stepping away from her role as a host of This Morning after almost a decade and a half. She took to Instagram to share a statement announcing her resignation – with immediate effect.

She wrote at the time: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to This Morning. To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we've done together.

“Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you. Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You've been loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day.

“Richard and Judy said, 'We only look after this show, it will always belong to the viewers.' It's been an honour to just be part of it's story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family. I will miss you all so much. Holly.“
