Paralympian Jody Cundy's future on Strictly Come Dancing could have been hanging by a thread after a panic-inducing hospital dash.

The 44-year-old athlete was reportedly rushed to the hospital at 4 a.m. after discovering a worrying infection in his leg. Jody had been struggling with his leg all week and it got so badly infected and swollen that he couldn't even put on his prosthetic leg, causing him to miss out on two training days. The decorated paralympian was spotted heading to Elstree Studios earlier in the week and the BBC was hopeful that the star would be able to perform but also put contingency plans in place in case he couldn't.

Speaking on "It Takes Two," the athlete said that his week had been a mixture of highs and lows. He said: “It's been a week of highs and lows. The first two days have absolutely flown by. The end of day two we had done the full routine a number of times which I had not done for the previous two dances. I was really confident that I could perfect everything for Saturday. I got home on Tuesday night and took my leg off and was like 'Oh, that's quite sore'."

As Jody Cundy prepared to take the stage for his latest performance on Strictly Come Dancing, fans of the show took to Instagram to show their support for the athlete. Many left comments in his section, wishing him a speedy recovery and wishing him luck in the upcoming dance-off. "Healing prayers, hope you can dance on Saturday xx," wrote one fan, while another commented, "You've got this, you've been fantastic so far, go team!"

Despite the setback, the determined Paralympian managed to perform in week three of the competition, dancing to the Oscar-winning "Married Life" from the Pixar movie Up. Although Jody managed to make it through to week four, the couple found themselves at the bottom of the league table with a low score of 20 points. The judges had mixed reviews of the performance. Anton praised him for his storytelling, Craig loved the lifts but criticised the frame, Motsi told him to be careful of transitions and energy, while Shirley was impressed with the footwork.
