Love Island star weighs in on Jess and Sammy split after cryptic comments
Love Island star Olivia Bowen has weighed in on Jess and Sammy's split.
This year's show winners Sammy Root and Jess Harding parted ways shortly after leaving the villa. They announced their shock split in an emotional Instagram post last week, just three months on from being voted the most compatible paring on the ITV2 show. Olivia, who is one of Love Island's success stories having met her husband Alex Bowen on the show, has said she understands the pressure to stay together.
Speaking to the Mirror, Olivia shared: "Not everyone that gets into a couple are going to stay together. Some people work and some people don't. They are in an environment that is so, so different from the 'outside world' as we call it. They probably just faced challenges that they weren't expecting or they are just not fit together and that is absolutely fine. It is what it is."
She added: "Good luck to them both. If they can go in different directions and enjoy the fact that they had that experience together."
Reflecting on her own experience leaving the show as a couple, Olivia revealed: "I think there is a bit of pressure and I think it is hard not to put that pressure on yourself. You went through it with that person and you feel like coming out that you should stick together with them. I know that a lot of people think of the brand deals and things but I really hope that people would just follow their hearts and their instincts and not do it for that reason. Life is too short to stay with someone that actually doesn't make you happy."
Love Island's Haris spills on unaired row between Zara and TanyelThe reality TV star found love on the show with Alex Bowen and the couple recently celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary as well as welcoming her first child, a baby boy named Abel, last year.
Yet things were not meant to be for 22-year-olds Sammy and Jess. Speaking to The Mirror at the Pride of Britain Awards, Sammy revealed how life since leaving the villa has been a "whirlwind" but he is now adapting to life since leaving the show.
Opening up about single life outside the villa, he added: "It's weird and a whole different reality but I'm adapting well. I thought it was going to be harder, but it's been a nice transition and everyone has been really friendly. I was so excited to get into the villa and the first day walking in was a shock but it was amazing." Sammy revealed he was blindsided by the separation.
In his Instagram video, he said: "I thought I would come online to address today's news about me and Jess. Yes, we had a private conversation regarding our relationship but this was left up in the air as Jess is still away and we haven't had a chance to speak in person. To be totally clear – I at least wanted a face-to-face conversation to see if our relationship could be saved and felt this would be the respectful way forward.
"We had the most incredible experience winning Love Island and I genuinely saw a future with Jess. I was committed and respectful of our relationship. Unfortunately things don't always work out the way you'd hoped. Despite how this has all played out today. I think Jess is an amazing woman and genuinely wish her all the best." Jess, who was in Ibiza on a girls' trip when the news of the split first hit headlines, said in a recent Q&A with her followers that she was "sad" over the breakup but decided against giving any concrete details.
"It's been over a week now since we split so I'm getting there. We shared a once-in-a-lifetime experience together so of course I'm sad," she admitted. "I really don't want to go into detail by doing a big statement but we're just very different and behave differently and that's it."
