Ferguson backed to complete "dream" transfer amid Man Utd and Liverpool links
Evan Ferguson will eventually secure a "dream move" to Manchester United or Liverpool, according to fellow Irishman Richard Dunne.
The Brighton forward has enjoyed a rapid rise and has continued to underline his quality, scoring a hat-trick in a win over Newcastle earlier this season. His exploits have seen him become an integral part of the Republic of Ireland set-up despite his tender age.
Brighton, who have been willing to sell their top stars, fended off interest in Ferguson this summer with the player recently penning a new contract. But Dunne believes the Seagulls will allow him to seek pastures new "when the time is right" with the player destined for one of the Premier League's elite.
Dunne told BoyleSports : "I’m sure Evan Ferguson would be delighted at the thought of playing for Liverpool and Manchester United as most Irish boys would dream of that. I think it’ll happen for him in the future, but he’s still learning his trade at the moment at Brighton.
"He’s in for some games, rested for others, and is still developing as a player. I’m sure Brighton will help him move on when he feels the time is right. He’ll have the pick of all the top clubs when he does. You rarely get young players as versatile as him. I think it’s too soon for him at the moment, but it won’t be long before it’s time to move on."
Marcel Sabitzer completes Man Utd transfer after last-minute deadline day dashFerguson scored 10 times last season and already has four in nine outings this term. He signed a long-term deal back in April which keeps him at the Amex until 2028, by which point he'll still be in his early 20s. Brighton have continued to thrive under Roberto De Zerbi and are involved in European competition for the first time in the club's history this season.
Where should Ferguson's next move take him? Have your say in the comments below.
De Zerbi has made it known he wants to see Ferguson become one of Europe's top marksmen. He said: “Evan’s contract extension is great news. He trains and plays like a senior player with many years of experience and has become an important member of the squad. The aim is to help him become one of the strongest strikers in Europe.”
United and Liverpool have recently invested in their attacks and adding a new No.9 doesn't appear a priority for either club. United secured the signing of Rasmus Hojlund, who has already impressed in his early weeks, whilst the Reds spent big to land Darwin Nunez last summer.
