Dillon Danis explains Conor McGregor's role in fight with Logan Paul

Dillon Danis says he and Conor McGregor talk every day despite the fact they were unable to train together for his fight with Logan Paul.

The Bellator MMA star has been friends and training partners with McGregor for years since they linked up in 2016 ahead of the Irishman's rematch with Nate Diaz. And they have stayed particularly close, with the American even cornering for his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in 2018.

But they were unable to work together in camp for his upcoming boxing debut with Paul due to the birth of Danis' first child which forced him to stay in New York. McGregor had brought a team with him to train for his own comeback in Cannes and invited his pal along, but his pal couldn't make the trip because of his new arrival.

"He talks to me every day," Danis told Mirror Fighting . "I talked to him this morning, actually. On the mental side he sends me voice notes, videos and certain things that I should do. He's always there for me even if we're not there physically, mentally we talk every single day.

"For the baby thing it was literally when he was being born and I had the press conference and then he was in France it was just a lot of travel. We trained for almost two months before that in New York boxing every day so we're always training together."

McGregor spoke to Mirror Fighting a few weeks before the fight, and noted that he is backing Danis to win even though they were unable to get together during camp. They had been spotted getting work in at a gym in New York while he was staying there over the summer, and he reiterated the point that Danis becoming a father took precedence over camp in France.

“Dillon’s going to win, Dillon will win,” McGregor said last month at the launch of his new Forged Irish Stout in London hotspot Jack's Bar. “He had the baby, we didn’t get to train together. So, I don’t know the ins and outs. I know he’s doing well, he’s still training and he’s going to go for it. He’s had a baby, he had a new baby so I tried to bring him out. Dillon’s good.”

McGregor was unfazed when asked about Paul's fiancee Nina Agdal filing suit against Danis amid an intense build-up, adding: “It’s messy all of that. I don’t care about it... [The fight] has had an interesting build-up from both of them, it’s exciting and fair play to both of them.”
