Married at First Sight UK contestants Ella Morgan and JJ Slater have been embroiled in controversy after reportedly hooking up behind their partners' backs in explosive scenes on the hit E4 show.

Ella, who has made history on the series as the first-ever transgender contestant, is said to have kissed fellow star JJ, while he was still married to his 'glam girl' wife Bianca Petronzi.

The scandal ground Ella and Nathaniel Valentino's relationship to a halt as he sensationally quit the show following his wife's infidelity. The dramatic revelations also follow JJ's split from his wife Bianca after the pair struggled to find a connection. Before reports of his infidelity came to light, Essex lad JJ confessed that Ella was 'his type' on the show.

The shock twist has reportedly left the remaining couples on the show rattled as they enter the second half of their marital journey after meeting together at the altar for the first time. Ella's on-screen romance has left Married At First Sight fans on tenterhooks throughout the season as her tumultuous relationship with Nathaniel has been far from plain sailing. Despite battling through week to week, the pair struggled to connect on an intimate level, and Nathaniel's desire to take things slow left Ella feeling insecure and yearning for more romance.

The trans star has been praised for her vulnerability on the series as she revealed that in previous relationships, she was made to feel like a secret once her partner realised her true identity. She admitted to feeling 'dirty' and 'ashamed' when past lovers didn't accept her true self.

Following their explosive kiss, Ella and JJ have been granted permission by the show's relationship experts to re-enter the series as a new couple, leaving their fellow co-stars in complete shock. Speaking about the alleged affair, a source said: "Ella loved the attention she received from JJ because it's what she missed in her marriage to Nathanial. After initially leaving the show when their marriages failed, Ella and JJ were given permission by the relationship experts to come back, which certainly ruffled feathers among the cast who have taken the process seriously from the beginning," reports MailOnline.

The infidelity has yet to surface on the show, but 29-year-old Ella dropped a subtle hint at her new romance when speaking to the Mirror at the glitzy Pride of Britain awards on Sunday night. Wowing fans in a pastel-hued ballgown adorned with the trans flag, the MAFS star admitted that it "all works out for the best in the end" on the hit series - revealing there's far more to come.

Opening up about life since the show, the star added: "The amount of things and opportunities coming my way are amazing. And that's not why I went on the show but the fact that I can now be a voice. I'm just glad I can be a relatable inspiration. The messages I've had have been so overwhelming, I have had some hate but the amount of good positive messages."

Meanwhile, the star's ex Nathanial claimed he was forced into his partnership with Ella on the show, saying he eventually quit because he felt like he was being 'strangled'. He told the Sunday Mirror: "I felt I was being strangled and it brought out an ugly side of me. I knew I was going to tear the place down, so I quit." He also labelled the producers "manipulative", alleging his time on the show was a "complete sham".

In response to Nathanial's claims, Channel 4 said: "Nathanial entered this process voluntarily with full and informed consent and was provided with more information than we would ordinarily share, to make him aware that his bride was trans. The matching process entails a detailed interrogation of participant's preferences and none of these would be overlooked when deciding who to pair them with.

"The welfare of all contributors is our top priority and we ensure support is available before, during and after filming – including 24/7 access to welfare or psych support. "The show is an unscripted reality series which follows real events as they naturally unfold and is in no way scripted."
