Big Brother's Olivia under fire again for 'rude' behaviour during challenge

Beleaguered Big Brother contestant Olivia Young came under fire yet again on Wednesday night as footage of her being short with some of the fellow reality show contestants left a bad taste in the mouth of viewers.

Wednesday night’s highlights show of the ITV2 reality series saw the 2023 housemates undertaking their first shopping budget task and they were split into three groups while cosplaying as office workers. The majority of the housemates were branded ‘bottoms’ of the fictitious Big Bros company - leaving them to complete mundane tasks like sorting paperclips into colours.

Among the bottoms was 23-year-old dancer Olivia who seemed frustrated with the fact she was tasked with separating different coloured paperclips into different piles. And she started snapping at other contestants that tried to strike up conversation and help her while the challenge was ongoing.

While Olivia’s comments were seemingly intended in jest, many viewers took to social media to accuse her of being unnecessarily harsh. One Big Brother fan commented: “Someone needs to humble Olivia because how can you be so rude to someone who is offering to help you?”

Another wrote: “I was starting to like Olivia but now I’ve changed my mind yet again because of the way she spoke to Farida.” And a further viewer commented: “As someone who was raised to respect my elders, the way Olivia speaks to Farida makes me very very uncomfortable.”

The latest pushback from viewers against Olivia comes after she ruffled feathers on the opening night when she threw a tantrum when she was nominated for eviction during an early task. However, she subsequently won immunity the next day after successfully completing a secret task.

She sparked ‘salmongate’ when she complained about Farida behind her back after the older housemate ate some of her salmon - but whined to fellow housemates rather than discussing the issue with Farida directly. And she sparked something of a race row when she sang a song with heavily Scots-leaning language that left the housemates confused and she singled out Chinese housemate Yinrun to suggest she would have no idea what she was saying.

Another argument about pasta in the kitchen saw Olivia claim she was being branded the ‘villain’ of the series after she complained to Yinrun about sharing pasta and Dylan also interjected into the conversation. Olivia insisted at the time: "I'm not making a drama, I'm not making a drama! Dylan's making a drama, he's making me the villain!" to which he replied: "You're making yourself the villain!" Yinrun then hugged Olivia, saying: "I understand! This is just my personality, I always say sorry!" with the "awkward" kitchen scene resolved.
