Shedeur Sanders has had an impressive first six games with Colorado, and has elevated himself to a potential first-round NFL draft pick

Shedeur Sanders is seen as a potential first-round pick heading into the NFL Draft but has been urged to stay put by notable quarterback analyst Jordan Palmer.

The quarterback is now in his Junior season in college football, and could decide to make the jump to the NFL after this season - which might be the best time for him to do so after his impressive season.

However, Palmer has told Sanders that he should strongly consider staying in school for another season - continuing to work on his craft along with his father, Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, head coach for Colorado.

Although Sanders could be a first-round pick if he did decide to declare, Palmer made an interesting case to remain in school.

He told F ox News: "There’s going to be a lot of merit in staying. Maybe partly because of draft stock, but maybe because of unfinished business."

Sanders is one of the highest-paid college athletes in the United States, after signing a number of NIL (name, image and likeness) deals. Sanders reportedly makes as much as $4.8 million (£3.91m) per year - significantly more than what he'd make in his first few seasons in the NFL as a rookie.

This is in-line with what Deion told Shedeur, and elder brother Shilo - who also could leave for the NFL after this season - when he suggested that both players will be at Colorado next season.

The Colorado quarterback came into the season seen as a late-round prospect, after his impressive play with Jackson State University. But after transferring to Colorado and playing against much higher quality of opposition, Sanders continued to play at a high level - with some believing him to join the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr, Bo Nix and Quinn Ewers as a first-round prospect.

Palmer believes that playing for his father in an offense suited for him has seen him come on leaps and bounds - where he could continue to do so should he stay another season.

He said: "Development is the key word. I see confidence. It doesn’t matter what the score is, he’s moving the chains.

"I think Shedeur’s really able to place the ball with accuracy down the field. He’s buying time in the pocket, creating time in space. He’s getting sacked, he’s turned it over a couple times. That’s playing quarterback. But I’m seeing a high level of accuracy down the field, and I see some areas where he can improve, and he will improve."

Sanders has scored 19 touchdowns to just two interceptions so far in the PAC-12 this season, leading Colorado to an impressive 4-2 start.
