Robson Green details new 'unique' documentary as he explores Amazon rainforest
Seasoned actor and documentarian Robson Green is heading out for another wet and wild adventure - this time trekking to the Amazon rainforest to come face to face with exotic wildlife and to meet locals living in the jungle.
The 58-year-old singer and actor is well known for his adventuring - having hosted adrenaline fuelled TV shows including Extreme Fishing with Robson Green and Robson Green’s Wild Swimming. But his new project sounds like it will be his most challenging, and rewarding, yet.
Robson - who has acted in high-profile TV shows including Grantchester, Soldier Soldier and Strike Back as well as topping the charts with his 1995 single Unchained Melody - will be documenting his adventures for a new Channel 5 series. And he has explained that his trip will be nothing short of “the adventure of a lifetime”.
Speaking to the Mirror, Robson explained that he is preparing to start filming a three-part documentary for Channel 5. He said: “I have a feeling that going into the Amazon rainforest will be a unique and unparalleled experience.” His journey will start in the city of Manaus in Amazonas, Brazil, and he will then sail down the Rio Negro.
He ventures deep into the rainforest, where he will meet indigenous tribes and spend time with pink dolphin conservationists. Robson will also work with survival experts and head to the hidden paradise of Alter do Chao.
Inside hoax claims and secrets of world's richest dog Gunther in new Netflix docA keen fisherman, he will also see what he can catch in the Amazon. He said: “Its vast and mysterious wilderness will provide the perfect opportunity for exploration, observing wildlife in its natural environment, beautiful birds and encounters with diverse ecosystems. Not one second of this journey will be taken for granted.”
Channel 5’s Adrian Padmore said: “We’re delighted to bring Robson back for an exploration of one of the world’s most important habitats.” Into the Amazon with Robson Green will be on C5 next year - however, fans will soon see him return to screens as Geordie Keating on ITV’s Grantchester - a role he has held since 2014.
Looking ahead to the upcoming eighth season - which has already aired in the USA, but won’t hit British screens until 2024 - Robson wrote on Instagram on Tuesday: “Fom the moment I stepped onto the wonderful and magical set of Grantchester I was captivated by the incredible teamwork and passion that permeated every department within the production.
“The cast and crew have created a joyous environment where creativity thrives, and it's truly inspiring to see everyone's dedication and talent come together to bring the beautiful creations of our incredible writer Daisy Coulam to life. From the meticulous attention to detail in the production design, cinematography and direction to the exceptional performances by our extraordinary cast, every aspect of this show is a testament to the skill and commitment of the entire team.
“Being a part of Grantchester has not only allowed me to never stop developing as an actor but has also given me the opportunity to work alongside some of the most talented individuals in the industry. I am grateful every day for the privilege of being involved in such a remarkable production.”
While season 8 is yet to air in the UK, fans can be encouraged to know that a ninth season is already filming and is also expected to air at some point next year.
