'Voters will applaud unfazed Keir Starmer after glitter-throwing protester'

Cometh the hour, cometh tough guy Keir Starmer. Stardust was sprinkled on Labour's cool leader by the glitter-throwing protester. Voters will applaud unfazed Starmer's composure under threat.

Respect how he firmly stood his ground instead of fleeing the lectern. Admire how he held off the microphone grabber. Cheer how Starmer took off a ruined jacket and in speckled shirt sleeves delivered pitch-perfect a rousing speech.

"If he thinks that bothers me,” said a confident leader, “he doesn't know me.” So very true from a former Director of Public Prosecutions who has lived with danger for many years.

But the British electorate know him much better after what admittedly was a worrying security breach. They'll really like what they saw, a Starmer showing real mettle.

This could have been a perilous moment but instead Starmer will have appeared a Prime Minister-in-waiting. He didn't know what that bloke had in his hand.

It could've been worse, much worse, than little shiny pieces. The speech by the way hit a lot of top notes, his best by far as Labour leader. He forcefully and repeatedly hammered home the case for Labour.

Why people should vote for revived Labour and not just against tired, incompetent, warring Conservatives.

Britain's tragedy is the election is probably this time next year rather than next week or month. But change is coming and Starmer and Labour are that change. The choice between fizzing Labour in Liverpool with a dying Conservative Party in Manchester couldn't be clearer.
