Emmerdale's Sam vows to bring Lydia's rapist to justice after devastating news

Emmerdale's Sam Dingle is keen to bring vile Craig to justice next week, after finding out he raped his wife Lydia Dingle.

Viewers were heartbroken last month when Lydia was raped by her former childhood friend Craig, weeks after they reconnected. Lydia kept her ordeal from husband and her loved ones, including stepson Samson who has been completing work experience at Craig's company.

Craig recently told Lydia he had feelings for her before he forced himself on her. Lydia told him she did not want to sleep with him, but he raped her and then claimed they had had a fling. Lydia confronted her rapist and told him what he had done, with him denying this.

Samson was left unsure why Lydia had stopped working for Craig, and believed they may have had a fling due to their past. Craig denied this but proceeded to set up Lydia, by making it seem that she had feelings for him. Craig claimed that their history brought them closer and suggested that something nearly happened between them.

As speculation grows about an affair, Lydia realises this week she has to tell Sam and her family the truth about her horrifying ordeal. In scenes yet to air, she confirms what Craig did to her and that there is no affair. Next week, it seems Lydia has reported Craig to the police as he's questioned by officers.

But Lydia is left distraught when the police reveal that Craig has been let go pending further investigation. Craig is allowed to leave the station and isn't charged, with there not being any evidence. Sam is lost and unsure how to comfort his traumatised wife, with both of them struggling.

Sam ends up confiding in Rhona Goskirk who speaks with Lydia and gets her to open up. Sam listens in as Lydia breaks down over the fact Craig may get away with his assault, and soon he's desperate to make sure he is punished. After a chat with his brother Cain Dingle, Sam shares his turmoil before wondering whether he can bring Craig to justice himself.

But what does he have in mind and what will Lydia think about it? Craig is still denying what he did to Lydia, while it's not clear if Lydia tells her whole family, including Samson, what happened.
