Alan Carr can't believe he's a TV judge because he has 'no opinions'
Alan Carr says he never has much of an opinion, so he finds it odd that he has again been chosen as a judge on a TV show.
The comedian is on the panel on new search-for-a-star programme Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream. Alan, who is also a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK as well as a spinoff series, almost got hired for Britain’s Got Talent this year. But he says he has forgiven show boss Simon Cowell for putting Bruno Tonioli on the panel instead.
Alan said of Mamma Mia!: “I do find it funny that for someone who doesn’t have much of an opinion on anything, who just wafts through life like a piece of litter on the wind, this is my third judging role.”
He added he finds it hard having to crush people’s dreams when they get voted off shows. He said: “I just want it over with. I’d rather have a trap door that you pull and they just go down rather than any lingering goodbyes.”

He added that working on ITV show Mamma Mia! – with three weeks filming in Corfu – has been “the best laugh”. He is joined on the judging panel by singer/songwriter Jessie Ware, 38, US actress Amber Riley, 37, and Frozen star Samantha Barks, 33.

Jessie said of working with Alan: “He has us in stitches – my pelvic floor has gone a few times.” Alan said: “It’s like being in a celebrity holiday camp. I’ll open my curtains, look out and see Amber, Jessie’s topless sunbathing, Samantha will be going down for her breakfast. It’s surreal.”
Days after being rejected by BGT, he had an awkward chat with Simon at a party thrown by Amanda. Alan said: “I go through the door and Simon’s there. Oh sh*t.
“So I went over there and said, ‘My wrist has been hurting all weekend practising that bloody buzzer and you went for Bruno’. He said, ‘Alan, that’s showbusiness’. My only regret is I love working with Amanda.” Having since been picked for Mamma Mia!, Alan joked he isn’t missing her at all. I love Amanda but I don’t want her on holiday with me. She bosses me about on The Italian Job, she’s not bossing me about on this. It’s like a spa break.”
Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream starts on October 22, ITV at 6pm.
