Rhian Sugden went on Big Brother for 'wrong reasons' after Vernon Kay scandal
Rhian Sugden admits her time on Celebrity Big Brother was not for the right reasons as she tried to clear her name.
The Page 3 legend appeared on the programme back in 2011 alongside the likes of Coleen Nolan, Martin Kemp, Julie Goodyear and winner Julian Clary. But at the time, Rhian, 37, was trying to rebuild her image after it emerged she had been involved in a sexting scandal with presenter Vernon Kay, who was married to Tess Daly.
But while Vernon's career remained unaffected, Rhian previously explained the scandal had wrecked her career and she was set on trying to turn around the public's perception of her. Speaking to the Mirror, Rhian spoke about her experience as the show returns on ITV, five years after it last aired on Channel 5.

At the time, Rhian was trying to clear her name from a scandal (Rhian Sugden/Instagram)"I love Big Brother," she exclaimed, before adding: "I love watching it, I used to love watching it back in the day when it was 24/7, I'd be one of those weirdos that's watching them at night time to see who's talking and who's walking around," she told the Mirror. During her time on the show, Rhian was nominated for eviction on Day 3 but survived. However, she found herself nominated on Day 12 and was subsequently evicted on Day 15.
Speaking on a potential return, she said: "I'd love to go back, I feel like I went in for the wrong reasons the first time. I was trying to clear my name of the scandal. I was too bothered about people liking me, whereas now I don't really give a s**t, I'd probably be more myself, which can be a bit wild and weird, I'd relax more this time.

"I feel like I was so young and I just wanted people's approval but now I'm older, I'm like, f**k other people. I don't think they'd have me again." Discussing her time in the house, she laughed: "I had a f***ing awful year to be fair." Despite it being fireworks central, Rhian remains in contact with some of her housemates.
"Me and Julian [Clary] have exchanged a few messages every now and again, Harvey [MC Harvey] that's it," she said, before adding: "Oh and Cheryl Fergison. I saw Cheryl at an event the other week and we started speaking. She's so sweet." Speaking previously about the scandal on a Channel 4 documentary titled Page Three: The Naked Truth, Rhian said: "It ruined everything for me. I feel like I was going up and up and up with my career and then when that came along I wish I'd never met him… He just got to give an apology to his wife on the radio and that was it for him."
She and Vernon met at a nightclub before they started exchanging messages for four months. But since finding fame, Rhian considers posing for Page 3 has been the highlight of her career, saying: "Even though it's all non-PC now, back in the day when Page 3 girls were something to be aspired to – how weird is that, saying now.
"Looking back even further, people like Sam Fox and Linda Lusardi, girls loved all that so to be part of that timeline before it got shut down, I'm forever proud of that. It brought so many opportunities, I wouldn't have met my husband – it changed my life for the better." Rhian is married to former Coronation Street star Oliver Mellor who she met through mutual friends.
