Zlatan Ibrahimovic hits back after Cristiano Ronaldo's dig at Man Utd owners

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has spoken out in defence of the Glazers amid the barrage of criticism that has been levelled at the Manchester United owners.

The Glazers have owned United since 2005 but have never been popular with the fanbase. They announced back in November last year that they were open to offers for the club, but with the saga still seemingly no closer to a conclusion, frustration with the Americans is at an all-time high.

Plenty of former players and pundits have spoken out to criticise the Glazers down the years. Perhaps the most high-profile person to do so, though, is Cristiano Ronaldo, who claimed the Glazers simply "don't care" about the club during an explosive interview with Piers Morgan last year.

The multi-time Ballon d'Or winner, who left Old Trafford shortly after his chat with Morgan, said: “The Glazers, they don't care about the club. I mean, professional sport, as you know this, Manchester is a marketing club. They will get its money from the marketing - the sport, it's, they don't really care, in my opinion.”

Resentment amongst the fanbase for the Glazers has only grown since those comments. Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani have tabled multiple proposals for the club but are still none the wiser other as to whether or not those bids will be successful.

The uncertainty over the club's long-term future is believed to have had some effect on Manchester United's summer transfer business, but Ten Hag was still able to spend around £170million in the summer.

And Ibrahimovic, who spent a season-and-a-half at Old Trafford during his illustrious playing career, has pointed to that figure in defence of the Glazers, highlighting Ten Hag has been backed with funds.

“I think now in Man Utd, I don't know, there are some kind of demonstrations about the owners to sell it and that, but just a reminder, the owners are investing,” he told Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“ It is not like they are not investing because they brought in many players for a high amount of money. So I think it's a little bit wrong saying that they are not doing what the fans expect them to do, then I don't know what the real reason is behind everything. ”
