Manchester United could launch a renewed move for Atletico Madrid chief Andrea Berta after he was head-hunted by Ed Woodward.

The Red Devils have endured a shocking start to the new season under Erik ten Hag - losing six out of their first ten competitive fixtures - and are potentially considering a restructuring at Old Trafford. It is suggested they are looking to add more experienced names to their football executive board.

According to The Independent, Atletico Madrid’s Berta has been mentioned once more. It is further reported that any appointment would not have an impact on John Murtough’s role as director of football.

United are keen to conduct an inquest following the side’s rotten start to the new campaign. It is not the first time that Berta has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Reports in 2018 suggested that United also had a close eye on him as they planned another reshuffle behind the scenes. Former chief executive Ed Woodward had identified the Spaniard as a potential option, with Jose Mourinho also giving his arrival the thumbs up.

A move eventually did not materialise, with Berta staying with Atletico Madrid. His contributions alongside Diego Simeone have been key to a period of success for the Spanish giants.

Berta’s arrival in Madrid coincided with the club’s first top-flight title in 18 years during the 2013/14 season. Since then, they have also added a further La Liga title to their collection, while also managing to lift the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup.

Simeone’s side have also enjoyed a positive start to the new season. Atleti currently sit fourth in the standings after losing just one of their opening seven league games.

Berta has overseen a number of eye-catching transfers during his time with Atletico. He played a role in the signings of Antoine Griezmann, Jan Oblak and current Manchester City star Rodri since his arrival.

The Red Devils could face some competition as they attempt to tempt him to English shores. Spurs are on the hunt for more football executives after Fabio Paratici's exit, while PSG could emerge as a future destination.

Should he arrive at Old Trafford then United will hope that he can harness some of that successful transfer acumen. The Red Devils have spent huge fees on a number of misguided signings over the past decade including Angel Di Maria, Paul Pogba, Fred and many more.
