Romelu Lukaku has been warned he'll get a noisy welcome when he returns to Inter Milan at the end of this month.

But despite previously helping the club to the Serie A title and a Champions League final, the striker won't be preparing himself for an affectionate round of applause. Instead, fans of the Nerazzurri will make their feelings on the Belgian striker clear following his acrimonious departure from the club this summer.

Lukaku, 30, spent two years at Inter from 2019-2021 after moving from Manchester United. He scored 64 times in 96 games during his stint with the Italian club, before heading to Chelsea in a £97.5million deal. But he duly misfired under Thomas Tuchel, and after just one season returned to Inter on loan.

He failed to have the same impact second time around though, scoring just 14 times and missing two gilt-edged chances as the club missed out on a fourth European crown against Man City. Still, a permanent return had seemingly been negotiated, when reports emerged the star was holding secret talks with Juventus.

During the saga, he reportedly cut contact with Inter, refusing to answer calls and messages from club staff and fellow teammates. But when a move to Turin fell through, he eventually ended up at Roma on another season-long loan deal.

And Inter's 'ultras' aren't about to let him forget his behaviour, having purchased around 50,000 whistles to heckle him with when Jose Mourinho's men visit on October 29. And the Curva Nord fan group have released a statement to let the forward know exactly what he is in for.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Should Romelu Lukaku have stayed at Inter Milan? Comment below.

“October 29 is a date we should circle in the calendar so we can be ready to let him hear all our disgust that we feel towards someone who turned his back on us in the most shameful way," they said. “A character who proved himself to be a small man, because before being a champion, you must be a man and know how to keep your word.

“We defended you with swords drawn and you repaid us by turning your back. Before the game against Roma, the Curva Nord will hand out 50,000 whistles to be used at every touch of the ball from he who betrayed our jersey. Let us all show how someone who proved himself unworthy to wear this shirt ought to be treated.”

Lukaku has already scored three times in five league games for Roma. The team are struggling however, with Mourinho's men lying 13th with just eight points from their seven games so far.
