The UK is set to enjoy some unseasonably warm weather for this time of year with temperatures hitting the mid-20Cs.

The 'Indian Summer' is set to peak at the weekend with many locations reaching highs of 25C. According to current forecasts the south west of England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland will experience the first wave of intense heat on Friday.

By Saturday, every area of Britain will feel very hot, with temperatures appearing to peak on Sunday. British Weather Services meteorologist Jim Dale said: "I think we can fairly call this an Indian Summer incoming - it will be peaking this time next week."

But all good things must come to and end and the question is when for sun lovers is when will the glorious conditions finish and the usual autumn weather return? It is likely that the UK will see a gentle return to normality as next week moves on and so the warm weather will only be around for just a few days at the most.

Professor Liz Bentley, chief executive of the Royal Meteorological Society, told iNews: “It won’t be around long enough to be registered as an actual heatwave. But it will land on a weekend which, depending on your viewpoint, could be quite nice. Of course, people should still think about sun cream if they’re out all day - even if it is just over two or three days, the sun can still pose a risk to your health."

According to the Met Office an Indian summer is defined as "a warm, calm spell of weather occurring in autumn, especially in October and November". BBC Weather reports much of Europe is also set to experience the early October sunshine. Madrid will reach highs of 30C this week, there will be highs of 29C in Rome while Paphos will see highs of 28C.
