A classic seaside town home of the one of the world's greatest ever boxers has been named one of the coolest places in the UK.

Over the summer Tyson Fury put Morecambe firmly on the map, if it wasn't already on there. In his hit Netflix show At Home with the Furys the viewer is taken into the world of the boxer, his ever patient wife Paris and their impressive gaggle of children.

In many of his runs around the town accompanied by his dog, we are also shown Morecambe - a town in Lancashire that sits on the Irish sea. While one might expect a world champion boxer with untold millions in his bank account to live in Monaco or Los Angeles, it is evident that Fury is a family man with a deep love for his home town.

He clearly has good taste, at least if a ranking of the coolest places in the UK is to be believed. Naturecan, a CBD supplement company that recently ventured into the world of destination ranking, judged it to be the fourth coolest town to live in the country - coming behind Polperro in Cornwall, Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk, and Marlow in Buckinghamshire.

While the firm did not offer any insight into its research, it is fairly easy to understand why Morecambe may have been rated so highly. Foremost among them is its beach front, which stretches for five miles. Looking out from the sands of Morecambe Bay you are treated to stunning views of the Lakeland Fells in the distance.

Looking inland, you will find plenty of quality fish and chip shops, arcades with 2p machines and decent pubs. The sand itself is nice and soft, making it perfect for an afternoon's sunbathing if you're lucky enough to be there during a rare day of good weather.

Morecambe is famous for its cockles and all over the beach you’ll find seashells. It is this heritage which has given inspiration to an exciting addition to the town - the Eden Project North. Made by the people who constructed the Cornish attraction, three great domes in the shape of shells will sit on the seafront when the project is complete.

They will be filled with plants and art exhibits, "showcasing natural abundance and the rhythms of life linked to the sun", according to the project's website. The floor beneath will be filled with "an immersive series of theatrical experiences that bring to life lunar rhythms and tides."

Other attractions which do actually currently exist is the Eric Morecambe Statue, which looks out across the promenade and was erected in honour of the comedian who was born in the town, and The Tern Project - a series of public art installations inspired by the bird life of Morecambe Bay.

If you fancy checking out what makes Morecambe so cool yourself, then there are plenty of ways to get there. Via car it is an hour and a half drive from Manchester up the M6. Going by train is slightly more difficult and requires a change at Lancaster, taking the journey time to closer to two hours.

Those staying overnight can bag a room at the town's Travelodge from £39 a night or Best Western Lothersdale for £59. According to Tripadvisor, the best place to stay in Morecambe is the Midland, which sits on the seafront.
