Thousands of energy customers to get up to 50% off bills this winter

E.ON Next is giving tens of thousands of households up to 50% off their energy bills this winter.

The new “Winter Affordability Support Scheme” opened on October 1 and is available to those who are on low income or have medical needs. To be offered the support, you must have been an existing E.ON Next customer by September 25, 2023, be on its standard variable tariff (SVT) and have a smart meter, or agree to have one installed.

Finally, you must have a household income of £19,000 or less, or a medical issue and a household income of £31,000 or less. The list of medical dependencies that qualify include a nebuliser or apnoea monitor, heart-lung or lung ventilator, dialysis, feeding pump or automated medication, oxygen concentrator or MDE electric showering.

You will be offered 25% off the E.ON Next standard tariff rate until March 2024 if you have no energy debt. If you do have energy debt, then you’ll be offered 50% off - and if you keep up with your monthly payments for the duration of the scheme, any outstanding debt you have at the end of it will be wiped.

Customers who are eligible should receive an email, letter, phone and text message from E.ON Next, explaining how you can sign up. The discount will then be applied to your bill automatically.

If you think you're eligible but you haven't heard from E.ON Next, you can get in contact by calling 0808 501 5200 or emailing [email protected]. As well as the discount, eligible households will get free insulation as part of the Great British Insulation Scheme.

An E.ON Next spokesperson said: "Our intention is to help as many customers as possible through this scheme, through the funding we have committed. We will also continue to lobby for targeted financial support, such as a social tariff, to be implemented across the industry."

If you're not eligible for the “Winter Affordability Support Scheme” but you're in financial hardship, then you may be able get support through the E.ON Next Energy Fund. This provides grants to cover energy bills and help replacing appliances such as cookers, fridges or washing machines.

It comes after EDF announced it will cut bills for some customers eligible for the Warm Home Discount by £30 this winter, while Ovo Energy is giving away free energy-saving products from October 16.
