A child rapist who "presented a risk to women and children" according to police has been taken back to prison.

Stephen Pennington, 35, had failed to comply with his licence and was arrested on Monday morning.

In a rather upbeat announcement this morning, Lancashire Police posted on its Facebook page: "Hi folks.

"You will remember that we posted a couple of days ago asking for your help to find a wanted man called Stephen Pennington and we are pleased to say that he has been arrested this morning (Monday, Oct 2). He will now be recalled to prison.

"We would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information over the last couple of days. Your extra eyes and ears really can make a massive difference to the work we do to keep you and your communities safe.

"Thanks again."

Lancashire Police confirm he's still missing

The force told the Mirror this afternoon that Stephen Pennington had not yet been caught.

In their most recent statement, Det Con Stewart Marshall, from the Mosovo (Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders) Team at West Division, said: “Pennington is a high-risk sex offender who presents a real risk to children and women and I would appeal to anyone who sees him or knows where he could be to get in touch.”

"He was jailed again last year for breaches of a sexual harm prevention order and notification requirements.

"Pennington is white, slim and around 6ft tall. He has short balding dark brown hair.

"He has links to Blackburn, Blackpool and Wigan.
