Aaron Rodgers on Jets sideline against Chiefs as Taylor Swift looks on
One of Taylor Swift's biggest Swifties, Aaron Rodgers, was back on the New York Jets sideline for their primetime game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The veteran quarterback has been away from the team since tearing his Achilles' on the opening drive of his Jets' debut at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 11 but was seen arriving via a cart to the stadium on Sunday evening. He was then spotted on the sideline during warmups using crutches and chatting with owner Woody Johnson before catching up with Chiefs star — and Swift's rumored boyfriend Travis Kelce.
Before joining his team back on the sideline for the game, Rodgers returned to his teammates on Saturday after undergoing surgery on his Achilles less than three weeks ago. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the quarterback was at the facility speaking to his teammates and attended meetings in advance of the "Sunday Night Football" matchup.
The 39-year-old gave a speech, with multiple reports suggesting that he told the team to stop pointing fingers at one another and be better teammates.
Rodgers had been a mentor to Zach Wilson throughout minicamps and training camp. The young QB was forced back into the starting role after the veteran quarterback went down against the Buffalo Bills.
Joe Burrow backs Patrick Mahomes after Kansas City Chiefs reach Super BowlSince then, Wilson has struggled under center with Jets fans hoping to see the team bring in some competition for him. But it appears that the team will stick with their former second-overall draft pick despite signing journeyman Trevor Siemian this past week.
Legendary Jets quarterback Joe Namath had some harsh words for Wilson this week.
"I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson. I’ve seen enough. He has quick feet, he can throw a little bit, but I don’t believe what’s going on up there,” Namath said on ESPN's "The Michael Kay Show".
He added: "I don’t believe in him, I don’t believe he has a future as a good player, and I think they made the wrong choice when they drafted him, I feel that way."
Rodgers, however, has spoken positively about Wilson and will hope to aid him from the sideline against the Chiefs on Sunday.
When asked about Rodgers returning to the team, star wide receiver Garrett Wilson said: "That would be awesome, as good of a football mind as he is, to have him around the team.
"For someone like me, to be able to bounce my thoughts off of, see what he’s thinking.
"To have him around, the aura, the energy he comes with, it’s priceless. As soon as we can get him back, his presence will be felt. I hope it is this weekend."
