A couple had their day "made" after their doorbell camera caught their postie gushing over their new pink door.

31-year-old Markie Mullins and her boyfriend Milo Bird, 32, spent weeks renovating their door in Detroit, Michigan. So when Markie checked the recording and heard the postwoman's reaction, she was delighted.

Markie, an astrologer, said: "It made my day to hear her react to the door like that. I was at work and noticed someone standing at the door longer than usual. I checked the camera and saw that. It made me happy."

Their postwoman, Benethia Williams, was captured on camera saying: "Love this door. I'm going to ask her where she got this from. It's a pink, pretty pink, door. It's cute though. It's not like bright pink. It's not a bright pink. I can't explain it. It's cute. You think I'm playing. I don't want to take a picture of it, but it's a cute door."

Markie shared the heartwarming video on Instagram where it's been watched more than 900,000 times. Posting the video Markie wrote: "I wanted to walk in the house and feel a sense of joy and this pink door is doing just that, I am obsessed! And we're been getting compliments from the neighbours so I'll take it."

The pink front door was part of a two-year-long home refurbishment project. Markie and Milo have been embracing the DIY life and have undertaken the huge project on their own. Their neighbourhood has suffered in recent years as a result of economic hardship. But it's not just Markie and Milo doing their bit to brighten the neighbourhood. Apparently, all the neighbours are at it, with many locals refurbishing buildings.

"It really put a smile on my face because my neighbourhood has been through a lot, everyone is working to build it back up," she said. "It feels really good to contribute to making the neighbourhood. Markie had envisaged a pink door from the outset, but entrepreneur Milo was a little more unsure.

"I originally wanted pink but my boyfriend wasn't sure," she explained. "So I suggested blue or green instead, just to do something lively. He suggested red, but soft red and in my head I thought 'that's pink'. So we tested this colour out and he liked it. He said it looks like a Barbie house."

And it wasn't just Benethia who the door brought joy to. One user wrote: "That is a cute door". The soft pink door really stands out against the black trim, and certainly makes an eye-catching statement. Another said they loved Benethia "immediately". While one user wrote: "I need this wonderful person to narrate my entire day". And Markie's choice has influenced others, with one person saying: "This was my sign to paint my door pink, I have been wanting to paint it pink all summer."
