Corrie star confirms Bethany Platt return and teases Ryan Connor romance twist

Coronation Street star Ryan Prescott has confirmed Bethany Platt's looming return to the ITV soap, after reports Lucy Fallon had reprised the role.

The Ryan Connor actor was joined by Lucy at the Inside Soap Awards on Monday 25 September, and he spoke exclusively to The Mirror about the fan favourite's comeback. Ryan and Lucy's characters briefly dated on the show, so could romance be on the horizon once more?

Teasing that it could be, but maybe not with Bethany, Ryan spilled on what was ahead for his character - while teasing a love triangle or a love square involving rival and new pal Daniel Osbourne. Asked about Bethany returning, he told us: "I believe so yeah," before adding of a possible reunion for Ryan and Bethany: "Who knows, I like Lucy she's a fantastic actress. The love triangle has become a love square.

"I'd love for Ryan to find his feet in a relationship somewhere, I don't know with who. He's been looking for love since the start in a way. He's had his heart broken a couple of times. I love working with Sair Khan who plays Alya, we have got chemistry as friends on set and so it's easy working with her. I dunno where it will go but I want that for Ryan."

It comes as the actor confirmed to us that Chris Gascoyne was in fact leaving the ITV soap, after reports of his character Peter Barlow bowing out. It was reported in July that actor Chris was bowing out of the ITV soap for "an extended break", more than 20 years after he first appeared in the role, with a source telling The Mirror that it wasn't necessarily a permanent exit, while no return date was planned for the near-future.

Speaking to The Mirror Ryan confirmed Chris' exit and praised his pal and said the show "won't be the same" without him. He told us: "He's a fantastic actor to work with, Chris is the kind of person who could have gone off and done anything and he dedicated 20 odd years to the show, so to see him go it won't be the same show. I will miss him dearly. I will stay in touch with him but working with him every day is one of the best things about coming to work. He's one of those guys, he's a real actor in the sense that he is nitty gritty and he cares about his work, even after so long he cares about technique and whatever he's working with that day. He brings stuff to soap we don't always see."
