A three-year-old girl has died after a medical emergency, with police launching an investigation into her tragic passing.

Gwent Police were called to a home in Montague Street in Abertillery, Monmouthshire, Wales, at about 8.55pm on Tuesday night. The force said the child could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene. The girl's death is being treated as unexplained and not suspicious, police have confirmed. A spokesman for the force said: "Officers attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service who confirmed that a three-year-old girl had died at the scene."

An ambulance service spokesman confirmed paramedics were called to the incident shortly before 9pm on Tuesday. "We were called on Tuesday, September 26 shortly before 9:00pm to reports to an incident in Abertillery, Monmouthshire. We sent one Cymru high-acuity response unit paramedic, one emergency ambulance, and one duty operational manager to the scene where we were supported by Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service colleagues," said the ambulance service spokesman.

The Mirror has approached Gwent Police for further information.
