There are some tasty Premier League fixtures lined up this weekend!

Aston Villa kick off the action against high-flying Brighton in Saturday's early fixture at 12.30pm before a raft of 3pm games, including Wolves vs Manchester City, Manchester United vs Crystal Palace and Newcastle vs Burnley.

Defending champions City are looking to bounce back after their eight-game winning run was broken by Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. United beat Palace 3-0 in the cup on Tuesday and now face the same opposition at the same ground as they look for a third straight win and clean sheet. Erik ten Hag has been hindered by injuries of late and will address the media this afternoon to give his team news.

Arsenal travel to Bournemouth on Saturday and should be fresh after a much-changed side beat Brentford 1-0 in the cup in mid-week. Mikel Arteta is due to give an update on the fitness of Bukayo Saka, who limped off in the north London derby last weekend.

Liverpool have a tough assignment, with Jurgen Klopp's side facing unbeaten Tottenham in Saturday's 5.30pm kick-off. Both sides have made impressive starts to the season and the fixture is the stand-out from the weekend's action.

Carragher explains Maddison transfer snub

Both Arsenal and Liverpool snubbed moves for James Maddison during the summer because he is an "endangered species", according to Jamie Carragher.

England international Maddison made a £40million move from relegated Leicester City to Tottenham Hotspur and has made an outstanding start to life in North London. Having taken the No.10 shirt left behind by Harry Kane following his move to Bayern Munich, Maddison has been an integral part of Ange Postecoglou's new-look side.

Maddison teed up both goals in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates, and Spurs come up against Jurgen Klopp's Reds on Saturday. Both the Gunners and Liverpool made big signings in midfield over the summer, but neither moved for Maddison. Carragher believes that the reason these clubs did not pursue Maddison is due to his role on the pitch, which is becoming less favoured among top managers.

Where Arsenal stand with injuries

The season may only be six Premier League games old, but Mikel Arteta'sArsenal side are already feeling the strain.

The Gunners have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the campaign in terms of results, with the north Londoners currently sitting fifth and boasting a record of four wins and two draws. While there are still concerns over some off-field issues, it is the mounting number of names on the treatment table that will concern Arteta the most.

Arsenal's fixture list in the coming weeks is by no means easy, starting with this Saturday's trip to Bournemouth and a huge potential title showdown against reigning champions Manchester City the following week. There is also the small matter of a Champions League game away at Lens wedged in between.

With that in mind, Mirror Football has taken a closer look at Arsenal's injury woes and Arteta's stance on the situation.

West Ham count Lingard cost

Jesse Lingard’s unsuccessful trial period at West Ham cost the club thousands of pounds in accommodation and travel costs.

Earlier this month, Hammers boss David Moyes announced that the former Manchester United midfielder was training with the club and struck an upbeat tone that suggested the 30-year-old would be offered a short-term contract by the club. It is believed his entire trial at West Ham lasted six weeks.

However no move materialised, and Lingard ended his spell using the East London club’s facilities to begin training at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.

Klopp clarifies Endo comments

Jurgen Klopp has hit back at questions over Liverpool new boy Wataru Endo.

Endo, 30, emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Reds after they lost the services of Fabinho to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad. The Japan international has been eased into life at Anfield, though, since swapping Stuttgart for the Premier League.

Klopp raised eyebrows when he claimed the fact that Endo is "very calm and polite" had "cost him the first two weeks" prior to the midfielder's impressive performance in the 3-1 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The German has now clarified those comments by insisting that he was not surprised to see the veteran star in midweek. Speaking ahead of Liverpool's trip to Tottenham on Saturday evening, Klopp also stressed that any new recruit needs time to settle in.

Arteta backs Havertz

Mikel Arteta has taken it upon himself to bring the best out of Kai Havertz, with the £65million signing struggling to make an impact.

Havertz is yet to score or provide an assist in nine appearances across all competitions since joining from Chelsea in the summer transfer window. He started the first four Premier League games of the season, but has found himself on the substitutes’ bench for the last two against Everton and Tottenham.

He was outshone by Emile Smith Rowe on his first start in 499 days as the duo played together in midfield in the 1-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday. But, having insisted on the club spending big to sign him in the summer, Arteta is confident Havertz will find his feet for Arsenal in the coming weeks.

Gravenberch makes Liverpool admission

Ryan Gravenberch has admitted he still has much to learn about Liverpool's style of play.

The midfielder joined the Reds from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, completing his move on deadline day. That meant the Netherlands international missed out on a full pre-season getting to grips with Jurgen Klopp's tactics.

As a result, he has been restricted to just 14 minutes of Premier League action so far this term. He has impressed in his only two starts though, against LASK in the Europa League and against Leicester in the Carabao Cup.

Gravenberch notched an assist in both games, both of which Liverpool went on to win. But he has admitted that he still needs help from Klopp and assistant boss Pep Ljinders on the training ground.

Fulham not underestimating Chelsea

Fulham manager Marco Silva isn't counting his chickens against Chelsea despite the Blues' struggles in the league.

“Chelsea is Chelsea,” Silva told reporters. “No-one can underestimate them because the quality is there.

“Of course, they haven't started the way they would like. Since Mauricio [Pochettino] came in, he is trying to get the things in the right direction for them to fight for titles, like they want to be, but really that’s not the most important thing for us. We will look for ourselves.

“We are analysing them, we are going to have a plan for the match, like we have always, it’s not going to be different than what we did against Norwich, that we did last week against Palace, we will do always the same."

FULL STORY: Chelsea dealt Chilwell hammer blow

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Ben Chilwell is set for an extended spell on the sidelines in a new blow to struggling Chelsea.

Chilwell limped off with a hamstring injury late into the Blues' win over Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. He had started Chelsea's first four Premier League games, captaining the side on three occasions.

But he has once again suffered a huge setback, having seen his time at Stamford Bridge plagued by injury. In November 2021, the left-back ruptured his ACL, ruling him out until the following season.

Bournemouth sweating on three

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is unsure on the availability of Dominic Solanke, Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra ahead of Saturday's meeting with Arsenal.

"We are training this afternoon so, especially with Dom, he didn't train yesterday. We will try for sure to have him available, but we don't know," Iraola said.

"Tyler is one of the cases we are waiting on too. We need to see how he is after playing his first minutes since being out for a while. The medical team are monitoring him, so we will take the decisions depending on how he is.

"In terms of Luis, it would have been good to give him some minutes against Stoke, but of course we couldn't. He had good minutes against Chelsea and we know that his quality is there, so hopefully we can see more of it soon."

FULL STORY: Alexander-Arnold set to return

Trent Alexander-Arnold is poised to return to the Liverpool fold after a spell on the sidelines, but Jurgen Klopp will be without Stefan Bajcetic again.

Alexander-Arnold has been missing for recent games but has gone through his paces at their Kirby training ground ahead of the trip down to Tottenham on Saturday. Klopp is confident the right-back will be included for the clash, bringing his usual attacking flair.

Palace worried about Henderson

Roy Hodgson has given Crystal Palace cause for concern with his update on the fitness of Dean Henderson.

Summer signing Henderson lasted just 18 minutes on his debut against former club Man Utd in midweek.

“He’s had a scan. The initial scan wasn’t very positive, I’m sorry to say, but he has another scan in a week’s time and maybe we’ll be lucky and that will show somewhat less damage than we saw in the first one, but it didn’t look like good news,” Hodgson said.

More on Liverpool's Bajcetic blow

"Stefan had a little, little setback," Jurgen Klopp said of Liverpool starlet Stefan Bajcetic. "The problem with Stefan is I can imagine everyone wants to see him play more – I want – but we have to be really careful. And now it's a little, little, little tiny calf issue. That's how it is when you are six months out.

"And we try everything to get him up to speed without pushing him. We make a very specific plan for him but in the end it's disappointing for him, of course, but for us as well that he got another one.

"So we have to take him out a little bit. He can work on pretty much everything else but not playing. That's it, I would say."

Johnson missing for Spurs

Tottenham will be without Brennan Johnson for the visit of Liverpool but manager Ange Postecoglou is still hopeful he can call upon Son Heung-min and James Maddison.

"Brennan will miss out this week," Postecoglou said. "It's nothing too serious but it is enough to keep him out (against Liverpool).

"Madders and Sonny trained today but we will see they how they pull up from training but they both got through everything we needed them to get through, but it will depend on how they pull up."

Pochettino drops Palmer hint

Cole Palmer could start for Chelsea against Fulham after continuing to impress Mauricio Pochettino.

"Yes, maybe, yes. I'm so happy with his performance," the Blues boss said.

"After only a few weeks with us he was able to perform very well and fit in the team. For sure he is on my mind."

Chelsea boss gives worrying Chilwell update

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed the worst when it comes to Ben Chilwell's hamstring injury.

"Bad news," the manager said. "The doctor told me is it is a bad injury but we need to assess in the next few days.

"Yes [it's the same leg as last season]. I think so. It's the mechanism of the action. He was a little bit unlucky in the way he suffered the injury. It's very sad because he was doing a very good game."

Man Utd confirm Martinez and Reguilon injuries

Lisandro Martinez is expected to be ruled out for two months with a recurrence if a foot injury.

Manchester United confirmed Martinez, who suffered the original injury in a Europa League tie against Sevilla last season, will be out for “an extended period”. The defender came off in United’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on September 3, but started their next two games Brighton and Bayern Munich. But tests from United’s medical staff have confirmed Martinez has suffered a recurrence of the metatarsal injury that saw him miss the last two months of last season. With Sergio Reguilon, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also out, United boss Erik ten Hag has a defensive personnel crisis on his hands.

United released a statement on Martinez which said: “It now been determined that he needs a period on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation. Assessment is ongoing to determine next steps. Everyone at Manchester United sends Lisandro our best wishes and looks forward to him coming back as soon as possible.

“Sergio Reguilon will also be absent from this Saturday’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace with a minor injury.”

Sancho told to bury the hatchet

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov knows what it's like to fall out with the manager at Old Trafford, and the Bulgarian has called upon Jadon Sancho to end his stand-off with Erik ten Hag by issuing an apology.

Berbatov fell out with Ferguson over his omission from the squad for the 2011 Champions League final, leaving the club a year later after a decision he said was "hard to take". However, he also saw Wayne Rooney return to the manager's good graces after the England striker's own issues with Ferguson.

Sancho has been exiled from first-team facilities as the fallout from his war of words continues. The winger responded to Ten Hag's comments about his omission against Arsenal by claiming he was made a scapegoat, but Berbatov believes the onus is on the former Dortmund star to bury the hatchet with Ten Hag.

Chelsea given minor injury boost

Mauricio Pochettino has been boosted by the return to training of Carney Chukwuemeka at Chelsea. The 19-year-old midfielder hasn't played since scoring in the 3-1 defeat by West Ham on August 20.

Benoit Badashile is in partial team training, but Ben Chilwell is still being assessed following yet another hamstring problem.

Captain Reece James, defenders Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana, midfielder Romeo Lavia, attacker Christopher Nkunku and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli are all still injured.

Arsenal injury latest

Arsenal's injury woes have continued with the Gunners being made to sweat on the fitness of several players ahead of Saturday's game against Bournemouth.

Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed William Saliba is among five stars to suffer setbacks. The French defender sat out Wednesday's Carabao Cup win at Brentford, and faces a race against time to feature at the Vitality Stadium.

Some of Arsenal's injury victims are long-term absentees, while others are more touch-and-go for their final league game in September.

Antony makes Man Utd return

Manchester United have made Antony available for selection again – despite the winger still facing allegations of physical assault, writes David McDonnell.

Antony attended an interview with Greater Manchester Police on Thursday, where the £82million star was questioned by detectives over five hours.

United initially granted Antony a leave of absence, on full pay, to deal with the allegations against him, which have been made by his ex-partner, Gabriela Cavallin.

Antony was dropped from Brazil's squad when the allegations surfaced, and United took the same action, with the 23-year-old having missed their last four games.

But United have decided to bring Antony back into the fold, although he will not train with the squad today and will not be available for tomorrow's Premier League game against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Alexander-Arnold to make Liverpool return

Jurgen Klopp is speaking in a press conference ahead of Liverpool's trip to north London to play Tottenham tomorrow.

He says Trent Alexander-Arnold has trained normally twice this week and will be in the squad following a lay-off. "It looks like he will be in the squad tomorrow and play," he said.

Stefan Bajcetic has had a "little, little setback" in his calf, so Liverpool will be careful with him. Thiago Alcantara remains sidelined.

West Ham's costly Lingard trial

Jesse Lingard’s unsuccessful trial period at West Ham cost the club thousands of pounds in accommodation and travel costs.

Earlier this month, Hammers boss David Moyes announced that the former Manchester United midfielder was training with the club and struck an upbeat tone that suggested the 30-year-old would be offered a short-term contract by the club. It is believed his entire trial at West Ham lasted six weeks.

Howe gives Newcastle injury updates

Eddie Howe is holding a press conference ahead of Newcastle vs Burnley tomorrow.

"We're going to see today. Callum [Wilson] has very minor hamstring tightness. We'll give him every chance of being available. Same with Sven [Botman] - we'll make a late check on him."

But it's bad news for Harvey Barnes, who is facing a long spell out.

"We think he's going to be out for around three months," Howe said. "No surgery required which is good news but his foot is now in a boot. It's an injury underneath his toe. He's now started his recovery and he's got to rest to let it recover then we can build him back up again."

Meanwhile, Emil Krafth is back fit and will play for the club's under-21s tonight.

More from Arteta on injuries

Mikel Arteta has spoken about William Saliba and Fabio Vieira, who were among the Arsenal players to miss the win over Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

"Let’s see how everybody is today. They weren’t selected," he said. "They weren’t fit enough to be in the squad that’s it. My hope is that everybody is fit and available. We need them."

Huge injury blows for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta is speaking to reporters at London Colney - and it's not good news for Arsenal fans.

Declan Rice, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka all haven't trained this week due to injury, while William Saliba also has a knock.

The Gunners are training later today ahead of their trip to Bournemouth, but they will be without some key players for the Premier League match.

Fulham team news for Chelsea match

Marco Silva is the first Premier League manager to speak this morning. Fulham play rivals Chelsea on Monday night.

He said: "Tosin [Adarabioyo] and Adama [Traore] will not be available. Kenny Tete will be assessed ahead of the game. Saša [Kalajdžić] will be involved in the squad."

Other injury concerns

Declan Rice is another doubt for Arsenal after coming off against Tottenham. "Declan hasn't trained yet. Obviously he could not carry on in the game, he wasn't comfortable at all," Mikel Arteta said on Tuesday.

"Hopefully it's not something big. We are confident. He's still uncomfortable, obviously he had to leave the pitch and that's never a good sign for a player like him, but hopefully he will progress in the next few days. It's a tough one."

Meanwhile, Manchester United were without Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night due to illness. Sergio Reguilon also missed the game, forcing Sofyan Amrabat to fill in at left-back. That trio could return this weekend.

James Maddison was subbed off against Arsenal with a knock, but Spurs are confident he'll be OK to face Liverpool tomorrow having trained this week.

“I had a little moment when I tackled Jorginho where I jolted my knee a little bit,” Maddison said afterwards. “You do not want to ever be playing in a derby where you are not at 100 per cent because it can cost the team, so I had to come off for the last little period.”
