Much like her mother, Princess Charlotte, eight, is already a keen sportswoman who has a love of everything from tennis to rugby. However, another sport that she is also very fond of is football - as her proud dad Prince William adorably pointed out last year.

During a visit to meet the England Lionesses at St George's Park, their Burton-on-Trent training ground, William shared a sweet message from his daughter as he told Captain Leah Williamson: “Charlotte wanted me to tell you that she’s really good in goal. She said, ‘Please tell them that’. Budding star for the future!”

While the little Princess certainly wouldn't be the first female royal to play sports competitively, having come from a long line of keen equestrians and Olympians, she would be quite the royal trailblazer should she wish to pursue a career in football. This wasn't the only time that Princess Charlotte - who previously revealed her favourite sport was gymnastics - and her love of physical activity has been spoken about.

When she was unveiled as the new Patron of the Rugby Football Union, the Princess of Wales took the opportunity to talk about her children's love of sports such as rugby and netball, before joking about her and Prince William's concerns for Prince Louis and his love of being in the “middle of everything”. Kate described how Prince George takes part in both rugby and netball with girls and boys at his school, saying: “Now that there is a move towards co-ed sport, so it’s not just girls playing netball, but other sports like rugby, which is great.” The Princess then spoke about Prince Louis' love of rugby, adding: “They’re all enjoying it, Louis is kamikaze, we’re worrying about when he gets older, he’ll be in the middle of everything.”

Earlier this year, Kate gave a specific insight into Princess Charlotte's love of sport as she took part in a game of netball rugby at the Maidenhead Rugby Club for her Shaping Us Campaign. Nigel Gillingham OBE, President of the Rugby Football Union, revealed that Kate had spoken about her three children's love of rugby. “She was telling me that she regularly plays rugby with her children in the back garden—and lots of other sport,” Gillingham said. “Apparently Charlotte is very much in her mould, very competitive as well apparently.”

During his appearance on , Prince William also opened up on his children's love of dancing and gave a rare insight into their family life at home. Speaking while walking around the Sandringham Estate, Prince William said: "One of the songs that the children are loving at the moment is Shakira, Waka Waka.

“There's a lot of hip movements! There's a lot of dressing up. Charlotte, particularly, is running around the kitchen in her dresses and ballet stuff and everything. She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around trying to do the same thing. It's a really happy moment where the children just enjoy dancing, messing around, and, and singing."
