Arteta hits back at his Arsenal critics as star explains game-changing new style
Arsenal are preparing to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon following victory in the Carabao Cup.
The Gunners beat Brentford 1-0 in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night thanks to a goal from Reiss Nelson. Mikel Arteta decided to rotate his squad for the game and was rewarded with some impressive performances.
Emile Smith Rowe caught the eye in midfield, while Charles Sogoe Jr made his debut after progressing through the academy. It’s now back to business in the Premier League, where they will look to get back to winning ways following a 2-2 draw in the north London derby last weekend against Tottenham.
Arsenal remain unbeaten in the league, but are already four points behind defending champions Manchester City, who are setting a ferocious pace. Here are the latest stories from the club, via Mirror Football.
Smith Rowe’s new approach
Smith Rowe started his first Arsenal match in 499 days against Brentford on Wednesday night and is now hoping to build on the landmark performance.

“I used to have a lot of doubts. I used to question my confidence at times. But now I am really strong, I am feeling really fit and I am taking that into now. I really believe in myself now.”

Arteta hits back at critics
Arteta turned plenty of heads with his decision to drop Aaron Ramsdale for David Raya earlier this month. Ramsdale made a comeback in the Brentford game and made a few key saves to remind everyone of his qualities.
Arteta himself says he did not need the reminder. In response to a string of questions on the goalkeeper, he said: "I don’t think I’m the one to ask the quality of Aaron Ramsdale, because I was the one that I brought him when everyone was questioning that decision."
The Gunners boss has spoken about the possibility of rotating his goalkeepers, depending on the opposition, so it will be interesting to see who starts against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Physio tells transfer tale
Former Arsenal physiotherapist Gary Lewin has explained how the club managed to get the most out of a player who had suffered a serious knee injury.
Lewin spent 22 years at Arsenal between 1986 and 2008 and had a front-row seat to many key moments at the club. He was involved in doing the medical for a player who had previously suffered an ACL problem who went on to become a great success in north London.
