Ever since their son was born, David Walliams and ex-wife Lara Stone have decided to keep his young son out of the spotlight.

The actor and comedian, 52, became a father for the first time in 2013 when his then-wife model Lara gave birth to their son, Alfred. Since then, the former Britain's Got Talent judge has kept Alfred out of the spotlight - with David and ex-wife Lara even concealing their son's face on any images of him shared on social media.

Although David had previously kept quiet about his family and personal life, last year the star opened up about his journey to fatherhood and his relationship with his son. While Alfred's parents both have very high-profile careers, they both agreed they wanted their son to have a normal life. David previously admitted that he always intended on giving his kids an ordinary life - despite his own fame and fortune.

"I knew what I was getting into, this is what I signed up to," he explained. "Making a television programme, being in the spotlight is unavoidable and if you're a kid, it must be quite hard. You don't know what they're going to want to do with their lives. What's the point of them being on display, I don't understand it," David told Hello! magazine. "They might choose to do something completely private with their lives in which case there doesn't seem to be any advantage to it," he added.

Like several other stars who value their children's privacy - including Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik, and Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes - David previously insisted that children should be able to make their own choices about whether or not to be in the public eye. While he has rarely spoken about his son to the press, back in 2020 during an appearance on This Morning, the bestselling children's author revealed the sweet way in which his only child helps him to pen his stories.

David said his son is to partly thank for his huge success in the world of children's fiction. "Yes, Alfred, he has lots of brilliant ideas," he answered This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby when she quizzed him on how Alfred contributes to his creativity. "We often talk about things we'd like to read stories about and he said, 'Wouldn't it be great if there was a monster made up of all the different scary monsters in the world and it'd be called the Mega Monster, Dad? That should be the title of your next book!' And I said, 'Okay, yeah that's a great title.'"

David shares his son Alfred with ex-wife and supermodel Lara Stone. The former couple met in 2009, with the comedian popping the question to the 39-year-old Dutch model in Los Angeles just months after they started dating. The pair married at London's Claridge's Hotel in May 2010 and two years later, in December 2012, announced they were expecting their first child. Alfred was welcomed into the world on May 6 2013. Following five years of marriage, the pair embarked on a trial seperation in March 2015, after 'drifting apart' which led to their subsequent divorce in September of the same year.
