Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Mason Mount's half-time substitution against Crystal Palace was pre-planned, allaying fears of another injury.

£65million summer signing Mount played 45 minutes on his return to action and was instrumental in Manchester United's comfortable 3-0 win. Goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial sent the Red Devils into the fourth round, with the draw due to take place following Wednesday's round of games.

Starting the move for Garnacho's opener before assisting Casemiro from a corner six minutes later, Mount showed what he can do after missing United's previous five games, although his return only lasted 45 minutes. Fortunately for United fans, there's nothing to worry about as Ten Hag confirmed post-match that the 24-year-old's withdrawal at the interval was indeed pre-planned.

The Red Devils boss told Sky Sports with a nod: "He is returning from an injury and we have to build this up. If you go too quickly you get a drop and we want to avoid that."

Ten Hag added: "It is a good night, I think we played quite well and we dominated the game. That was what we were looking for. We made a step forward at Burnley with how we defend and today, on the ball, we make another step and there is still a lot to come."

One player who managed 60 minutes for United was midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who loved his full debut even playing as a left-back for much of the game. "I think it was a perfect night, we played very well, most importantly won 3-0 it was a perfect night," the Moroccan explained to Sky.

"It's not been the most easy time but it's clear United is a huge club. The pressure is high but we want this. We want to win and we'll push very hard to win and give the fans much more."

"It was very good performance, we started against Burnley with a very important win and today gave the fans something to enjoy. I am not in the moment at my best because it is normal with not a perfect pre-season, little injury and trained last two weeks very hard to be 100 per cent, if you play games you will be stronger and better."
