The hugely anticipated series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins is off and underway - and there's no shortage of celebrities facing the toughest challenges of their lives.

This series is already look like one of the best yet as shamed former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, back in the world of reality TV after his stint in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, puts his body on the line. And according to his new friend Danielle Lloyd he is going to be 'annihilated' by Celebrity SAS officers. What more could you want?

The shamed politician said he wanted to push himself after a “challenging period as Health Secretary during the pandemic” and Danielle says her new mate that nobody expected was taken apart by the brutal instructors. We're already getting a good look at those who aren't cut out for it and those with the physical and mental capabilities to go far.

The Channel 4 show features beastings – tough exercise challenges as part of the training as chief instructor Mark 'Billy' Billington and his directing staff Jason 'Foxy' Fox, Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver put the stars through their places. Things are already rather interesting, leaving viewers gripped.

The Only Way Is Essex's James 'Arg' Argent will also take part along with former Love Island star Teddy Soares, Michelle Heaton from Liberty X, singer Gareth Gates, former glamour model Melinda Messenger, former footballer Jermaine Pennant and rugby star Gareth Thomas.

This series is highly anticipated because of the strong line up - but controversial Hancock's name stands out as the 'one to watch'. The Mirror's Showbiz Editor Mark Jeffries says: "If you want to see Matt Hancock immersed in dirty water, shouted at and generally given a hard time, then Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins is the show for you."

Hancock lost the Conservative Party whip over his stint on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! last year. He collected more than £300,000 for appearing in the ITV reality show while he was still being paid to represent his constituents.

Campaigners for those bereaved in the pandemic accused him of “trying to cash in on his terrible legacy”. Hancock was forced to quit as Health Secretary in 2021 after CCTV footage surfaced of him kissing an aide, Gina Coladangelo, at a time when this breached his own social distancing guidelines.

The brand new fifth series of Celeb SAS will strip the celebrities of their coveted lives as they attempt to survive in the most challenging of environments - the jungle in North Vietnam. This year, all the participants will have their mental and physical strengths put to the test via a number of gruelling tasks and interrogations by SAS trained officers.

MATT HANCOCK, 44, FORMER HEALTH SECRETARY

Matt Hancock is no stranger to the great outdoors after appearing on I'm Celeb last year. Aside from being chosen to do questionable trials, he was also on a mission to win over his campmates and the viewers, after recieving negative press about his conduct during the Covid pandemic.

Speaking about the show he said: “Being on SAS was like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. It's one of the toughest physical and mental things I've ever done. It really opens your eyes and makes you look into yourself. After coming through the most challenging period as Health Secretary during the pandemic, I wanted to push my limits. It’s safe to say the course tested my resilience!”

JAMES 'ARG' ARGENT, 35, FORMER TOWIE STAR

Former The Only Way Is Essex star James Argent, better known as Arg starred in Towie from 2010. And it was his on off relationship with Lydia Bright that propelled him to become a household name. But his fluctuating weight also made him tabloid fodder. In April 2021 James underwent a gastric band operation as his weight reached 27 stone.

He said: “It's the type of show that pushes you to breaking point and it's something I'll never forget. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

JERMAINE PENNANT, 40, EX PREMIERE LEAGUE FOOTBALLER

Jermaine achieved huge success on the football field after playing for clubs including Liverpool but his lavish lifestyle got the better of him and he reavealed that he was forced to declare himself bankrupt in an interview earlier this year. In the interview with The Sun he explained that he spent his entire £10million fortune that he had amassed during his career on luxury cars and buying mansions.

Reflecting on his experience on the show he said: "I wanted to push myself to my limits, but you underestimate how brutal it actually is until your body's going through it!”

DANIELLE LLOYD, 39, FORMER REALITY TV STAR

Danielle Lloyd was crowned Miss Great Britain and Miss England and became known due to her relationship with footballer Teddy Sheringham. Her reality TV career started when she appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007. But she became the centre of controversy along with the late Jade Goody and Jo O'Meara - for making racist slurs against fellow Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.

Speaking of her time on SAS, she said: "This experience was just life changing. It's made me positive and ready to take on the world.”

JON -ALLAN BUTTERWORTH, 37, PARALYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST

Jon -Allan is a paralympic cyclist who competed in the 2012 and 2016 summer Paralympics. But he has a military background after becoming an aircraftman for the Royal Air Force. But he tragically lost his arm while serving in Iraq following a rocket attack.

Jon-Allan said of the show: "My military career was cut short, so I wanted to see whether I have what it takes to survive in a world the DS think is normal.”

MELINDA MESSENGER, 51, TV PRESENTER

Melinda was a former glamour model who became a lads mag favourite. Since then she turned her hand to presenting and hosted shows including Cowboy Builders.

She said: “It was incredible, the most intensely physically challenging thing I've done. I would say it was surreal, but I'd also say it was way harder than it looks on TV!”

GARETH GATES, 39, SINGER

Gareth shot to fame after appearing on Pop Idol in 2002 where he was crowned runner-up to Will Young. Over the years, the father of one has been a keen gym goer but says that going to the gym did not prepare him for entering the Vietnam jungle.

He said: "Wow this was an experience like no other. I learnt very quickly that there is a difference between being gym fit and battle fit.I was so looking forward to doing this show, to test myself, to see what courage, grit and determination I really had. I would encourage anyone who wants one of the ultimate, physical and mental challenges to give this a go. It was an amazing, brutal, unique experience!”

MICHELLE HEATON, 44, SINGER

The former Liberty X star became a household name when she appeared on ITV's talent show Popstars in 2001. But her life has been far from easy as she was diagnosed with the BRACA2 gene, which can determine the chance of developing breast cancer. She was told that she had an 80% chance of developing breast cancer and a 30% chance of getting ovarian cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy and had reconstructive surgery.

Speaking of her time on the show she said: “I loved being on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins because it put me in situations that I would never put myself in normally. It got me to think outside the box. It got me uncomfortable. It’s only then you learn where your real limits are.”

GARETH THOMAS, 49, RUGBY UNION STAR

The rugby ace made headlines in 2009 when he publicly revealed that he was gay after he retired from the hard-hitting sport.

He said:"There's not many experiences that allow you the opportunity to look inside yourself and see what you're truly made of. I just knew I had to say yes to this so I could work out who I really am, and it totally lived up to my expectations.”

SIVA KANESWARAN, 34, MEMBER OF BOYBAND THE WANTED

Siva achieved huge success as a world renowned pop star with his group The Wanted as has gone on to appear in other reality shows including Dancing On Ice earlier this year.

He said: " If you dig being tortured for a few days and being dragged out your comfort zone, then this is the show for you! In a weird way, it was very fulfilling in the sense that you face your fears and you come out of it a new person, a new improved person.”

TEDDY SOARES, 28, FORMER LOVE ISLAND CONTESTANT

The reality TV star appeared on the dating show in 2021 and thought he had found love with fellow Islander Faye Winter. But their relationship did not stand the test of time and the couple split earlier this year.

He said: "The whole experience was overwhelming, but for me, it was one of the experiences that I will never, ever be able to live down.”

PERRI SHAKES DRAYTON, 34, FORMER ATHLETE

Perri was a 400 metre hurdles athlete but in the 2013 World Championships she suffered a knee injury. But she battled through to become the 2013 Indoor European Champion in the 400 metres. She said: "It was an incredible experience from start to finish. There are so many words I can use to describe it. I loved every minute of it.”

ZOE LYONS, 51, COMEDIAN AND TV PRESENTER

Zoe has been on the comedy circuit for some time and in 2021 began hosting her own quiz show called Lightning on BBC2. She said: "It was the worst ‘all-inclusive break’ I’ve ever been on. There's a bit of me that feels incredibly fortunate that I got to participate in the show because it does test you, and there's quite a bit of fun to be had if you don't mind losing a few toenails!”

AMBER TURNER, 30, TOWIE STAR

Amber caused a stir when she arrived on Towie. And she made even more waves when she allegedly cheated on her boyfriend with show hearthrob Dan Edgar. But the couple split earlier this year. Speaking of her time on the show she said: "Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins It was the Hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, the most physically & emotionally demanding experience I’ve ever but the best experience all in one. I loved every moment of it (except having that bag over my head) and wouldn’t think twice about doing it again!”

KIRSTY LEIGH PORTER, 34, ACTRESS

The mum of two has appeared in soaps including Coronationn Street as David Platt's girlfriend and also Emmerdale as the best friend of Holly Barton. She said: "Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins was absolutely brutal but the most AMAZING experience and dare I say it, one I wish I could do again!! And the DS are actual real-life superheroes – the strength they hold is unnatural. They are absolutely amazing!”

MONTANA BROWN, 28, FORMER LOVE ISLAND STAR

Montana appeared on Love Island in 2017. But she recently made headlines when it was revealed that she had undergone surgery just months after giving birth to a baby boy named Jude. She revealed the news on her social media but did not tell fans what the surgery was for. She said of the show: "You don’t get the opportunity to do something this hard in life so I couldn’t say no. This was the hardest challenge I’ve ever experienced but I proved to myself that I’m actually quite tough and I can do anything I put my mind to.”
